Hebeth

Hebeth is the second level of Doom: The Dark Ages. The Doom Slayer must defend Hebeth from the demons who are trying to disable its trans-dimensional barrier.

The armored pinky rider, Hell knight, mancubus, nightmare imp stalker, plasma shield soldier and stone imp are introduced as enemies in this level. The accelerator, as well as the shield saw’s saw attachment, are introduced as weapons. This level is also the first to include Sentinel shrines and gold.

It uses the music tracks "Hebeth" as ambience, and "Atlan Battleground" as combat music.

"Prince Ahzrak’s search for the Heart of Argent continues. He now looks to weaken the Sentinel’s [sic] defenses."

Lore[edit]

Located on a distant planet far from Argent D'Nur, Hebeth was once an interdimensional port facilitating off-world travel. At the beginning of the war with Hell it was chosen to be the site for the Trans-Dimensional Barrier, a construct designed to sever Hell’s ability to open portals into Argent D'Nur. The barrier is powered by aetherium crystals that are abundant on the planet.

Trivia[edit]

  • The Doom Slayer visits the lost city of Hebeth during the events of Doom Eternal. Samuel Hayden states that the city was lost "before your time with the Night Sentinels", but he could have been referring to a location that existed before the trans-dimensional barrier was constructed.
  • The level's first cutscene opens with the caption "Sentinel Outpost – Planet of Hebeth", introducing some ambiguity as to what the name Hebeth refers to: the city, the planet itself (known to humanity in later ages as Mars), or possibly both.
  • In this level some of the Sentinels would attempt to shoot demons, if the player lets them find them.[1]
