The Hell cultists of Doom: The Dark Ages are former Night Sentinel scholars from Argent D'Nur, now corrupted into the service of Hell.

Tactical analysis

Hell cultists possess zero threat level. They are entranced and enthralled to Hell's will so thoroughly that they are unable to react to the Doom Slayer's presence as they continue to exert their will toward maintaining the Hell portals they have opened. Cultists are found standing in circles whose destruction is the goal of a level objective. Any damage whatsoever will utterly destroy them.

Lore

Once esteemed Sentinel scholars, the ambition of the cultists caused them to fall victim to Hell. They were initially unaware of the nature of the unseen dimension from which flowed the essence that they sought. Their brilliance was turned to cruelty through sanity-shattering experiments, causing them to fall under the sway of Prince Ahzrak. They have now bent all their power and intellect to breaking the Dimensional Barrier, allowing the demonic horde to invade the Sentinel lands through the portals they open.
