A Hell knight about to slam its right hand into the ground.

The Hell knight is a returning demon in Doom: The Dark Ages. It is similar in appearance to its previous counterparts since Doom 3, and maintains the fast leaping attacks of its Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal predecessors. The monster now has uniquely striped skin. An armored variant also occurs in the form of the battle knight.

Tactical analysis[edit]

The Hell knight behaves similarly to its counterpart from Doom Eternal, attacking by swinging its clawed arms and leaping into the air to perform ground slams. All of its attacks can be parried with the shield saw, faltering it and making it vulnerable to a counterattack. A single blast from the super shotgun at close range is enough to kill a knight.

It is possible to shoot both of the knight's arms off, upon which it will stand still and roar at the Doom Slayer until it is finished off.

Lore[edit]

Hell knights thrive in Hell's chaos of domination and submission. Consistent with their previous lore, they are described as being blood-bound to the reigning demon lord, with their ranks continuously culled for survival of only the strongest and fittest who most embody raw and unbridled power.

Trivia[edit]

  • Coincidentally, the original Hell knight also has green energy in its hands, and the fireballs are also the same color. The final concept art for Doom Eternal's Hell knight also showed them with green energy in their hands.[1]
