Hellevator is a full thirty-two map megawad for Doom II designed for Boom-compatible source ports and created as a three-day speedmapping community project, led by ViolentBeetle in late 2020. Each map represents a floor of a demonic skyscraper and the player ascends the skyscraper with each level completed. Mappers were given 72 hours to complete their map after signing up and had to create their map within a cross-shaped layout designed by ViolentBeetle and were required to incorporate his elevator template as the exit, with all exits requiring the red skull key.
Development for the project started on September 26th, 2020 on the Doomworld forums with a public beta releasing on November 30th. An idgames archive upload followed on January 24th, 2021 and it would receive a spiritual sequel, Skulltiverse, later that year.
Plot[edit]
The demons have built a skyscraper to invade heaven and you must battle through 30 floors of all sorts to confront and defeat the demonic Architect and his mighty exposed brain.

Built-in demos[edit]
This WAD features three built-in demos. All require Doom II with a Boom-compatible v2.14 source port to view them. The demo levels are:

---|---|---|---|---|
DEMO1 | MAP26: The Unforgotten Floor | 4 | 4603 | 2:11.51 |
DEMO2 | MAP10: The Splatter Floor | 4 | 5669 | 2:41.97 |
DEMO3 | MAP14: The Chemical Production Floor | 4 | 4404 | 2:05.83 |
Trivia[edit]
- Despite the similarities between both mapsets, Hellevator was not inspired by Going Down as ViolentBeetle had only become aware of it after launching the project.
- The bonus maps in Skulltiverse are Hellevator-themed.
