High Noon Drifter is a 2017 Western-themed gameplay mod by TerminusEst13, which won a Cacoward the same year. The mod's title is a reference to both High Noon, the classic Western film by Fred Zinneman, and High Plains Drifter, a Western by Clint Eastwood.
The project received a Gameplay Mod award at the 2017 Cacowards.
Gameplay changes[edit]
High Noon Drifter replaces the weapons of Doom, though most of them are functionally similar to their vanilla counterparts:
- The fists cannot be directly selected, as the player can use their whip (secondary fire) while equipped with any other weapon.
- The chainsaw is replaced with the Nimurdal boomerang, a throwable projectile that seeks out enemies and power-ups.
- The pistol is replaced with the Thunderhawk, a revolver that does not consume ammo by default (this can be changed in the options menu).
- The shotgun is replaced with the Cintia 1901, a lever-action shotgun.
- The super shotgun is replaced with the Montaraz 1899, a double-barreled shotgun that allows the player to load 4 shells in at once for one devastating shot.
- The chaingun is replaced with the Sierra M-12, a submachine gun that may be dual-wielded.
- The rocket launcher is replaced with the V45, throwable hand grenades that explode on impact.
- The plasma rifle is replaced with the Anthrakia, a mystical staff that can burn enemies.
- The BFG9000 is replaced with the Mask of Basilissa, a demonic skull that throws explosive fireballs, which cause lingering burn damage afterwards.
