The Honorary Doom Team Member challenge coin in its case.

The Honorary Doom Team Member challenge coin is a special token of thanks given by id Software to modders who are participants in the official add-ons program for the version of Doom Classic first released in 2019. It is a metallic coin with an outer box and inner display case. Produced specifically for program participants only, it is an exceedingly rare item of memorabilia.

Full description[edit]

Outer box[edit]

The outer box is dark gray with white flecks and faux scratches. The top bears a grayscale image of the final boss from Doom II, otherwise known as the Icon of Sin, based on the original sketch by Adrian Carmack. This box somewhat resembles a smaller version of the packaging of the 1996 id Anthology. The bottom of the box has the Doom logo, id Software logo, Bethesda logo, and a copyright notice. It states that the item is made in China.

Inner case[edit]

The inner case, which is white, has the same dark gray color on top with white distressing and a grayscale picture of the heads side of the coin itself.

When opened, the inner case contains a cut and fitted foam insert which holds the coin. The inside top of the lid bears a note of thanks from series director Marty Stratton:

Since DOOM's initial release, a lot of great first-person games have come and gone, but DOOM remains because of its devoted community. The longevity of DOOM is the result of the vision and creativity of mod authors like you. Your work represents the best of what the community has created. Thank you for the time and passion you've dedicated to DOOM and for joining us in the effort to create more DOOM. Rip and tear

—Marty Stratton, Studio Director

Coin, heads side[edit]

The heads side of the coin displays the Doomguy in bust profile, using a classic Doom design. Around the top outside edge of the coin in a ring is the text, "Honorary Member of the Doom Team", and at the bottom, the text, "Rip and Tear," a reference to the infamous Doom comic and this phrase's subsequent use in the Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal series of games.

Coin, tails side[edit]

The tails side of the coin displays a simplified form of the Doom logo, with solid lettering. Around the top outside edge of the coin in a ring is the text, "Thank You for Creating More Doom", and at the bottom, the text, "Nods to Mods".
