Hopscotch is a megawad for Doom II that consists of 20 small platforming maps plus one outro map, requiring an MBF21-compatible source port. It was created by LunchLunch and first released on the Doomworld forums on August 18, 2022, with the final version being uploaded to the idgames archive on March 26, 2023. The mapset represents a sort of beginner's guide to platforming in Doom, teaching basic concepts and techniques through a series of short, single-room platform challenges of increasing difficulty that the player needs to traverse to reach the exit. The design of each map is sparse and utilitarian, with the WAD relying on vanilla textures, further emphasized by the fact that none of the maps are named, as well as all levels using the same custom MIDI as their soundtrack. MBF21 features are used to ensure instant death should the player fall off any of the ledges and force a pistol start for each map.

Trivia[edit]

  • The MIDI playing over the title screen as well as the final map is an instrumental rendition of the song "Summertime Sadness" by American singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey, which can be seen as a sort of ironic joke, as the accompanying music video for the song directed by Kyle Newman and Spencer Susser tells the story of two lovers committing suicide by jumping to their deaths from great heights.
