Horde mode

From DoomWiki.org

Horde mode is a custom game mode exclusive to the source port Odamex.

The objective is for a player (or players) to pick up loot crates that give the player ammunition, health, armor, and weapons to fight hordes of monsters that spawn into custom levels designed for the game mode. Once an objective damage amount is met for the wave, a boss monster (or monsters) spawns in that the players must defeat to advance to the next wave. Then, as the wave number gets higher, the monsters that spawn in go up in difficulty to kill and the player is given access to stronger weapons. Players that died and lost all of their lives during a wave have the opportunity to be brought back to life if the living players defeat the boss monster. The map advances to the next map when the final wave (usually 5) is won, or if all players lose all of their lives.

The game mode was chiefly inspired by Unreal Tournament's Invasion game mode, as well as Killing Floor. Although it shares a few similarities to the invasion mode featured in Skulltag and Zandronum, it sticks much more closely to its inspirations through its use of open maps and random monster spawns.

Horde maps make use of nine new map things, with editor numbers 5300 to 5308, in order to dynamically spawn enemies and items.
