The id Tech 8 game engine, used by Doom: The Dark Ages, was released on May 15, 2025 and is a technological successor of the id Tech 7 engine, which powered Doom Eternal. It features "all-new dynamic interactive ray-traced lighting and shadows, higher-fidelity image quality, increased gore and destructible environments," and more.[1]
