MAP02: Kapital is the second map of Scientist 2. It was designed by Roland van der Velden and uses a MIDI rendition of the Dream Theater song "Burning My Soul" as its music track.

Essentials[edit]

Other points of interest[edit]

Secrets[edit]

  1. In the southernmost room with the wall fragments that act either like crushers or slow-moving lifts, go towards the southern wall and go through the middle part of it to get a chainsaw. (sector 72)
  2. In the room with the T-shaped walkway over the nukage, go to the northern side and you will see a computer area map on a wooden block. (sector 20) Lower the block from its eastern side to get the computer area map.
  3. In the green and gray room on the western side of the map, get to the two sets of terminals at the northern end and press the one on your right (east). It will open up an alcove nearby with some arrows. (sector 289)
  4. When you go outside, head towards the building with the red carpet (it is east of the gigantic eagle statue). Once you do this, go all the way back to the starting area, where there will now be a small corridor going south with a medikit inside. It will lead you to the rooftop south of the carpet building, where you can get some arrows and a crossbow. (sector 166)
  5. Approach the large crack leading to the exit, but before dropping down, lean to the west to pick up a megaarmor. (sector 114)

Bugs[edit]

The teleporter trap that sends the spiderdemon (thing 57) to guard the yellow key is set up in a way that will permanently break and fail to send the spiderdemon in, if something merely blocks the teleporter destination when the trap is activated. This can be done by herding monsters onto the yellow key platform and activating the trap when they are in the northeast quadrant, as they will likely block the spiderdemon due to its huge size.

There is a clip (thing 156) placed inside a wall in the circular nukage area, specifically in the north end of the west wall touching the chaingunner's platform. It is still obtainable by using a grab.

The entrance to the trapped teleporter area has an invisible trigger in front of the door (linedef 2854) that blocks use attempts directed at the door until the player gets much closer than usually needed to press it, cutting the player's use range to 28 map units instead of the usual 64. Similarly, the exit of the teleporter area has another invisible trigger in front of the door (linedef 55) which cuts the player's use range to 32 units.

The following multiplayer-only things have no flags set for any of the three difficulty classes, so they do not actually appear in the level:

  • one flamethrower (thing 165)
  • a crossbow (166)
  • one shotgun (167)
  • a chainsaw (168)
  • one flamegrenades (169)
  • a dual shotguns (170)
  • one AK-47 (171)
  • two backpacks (225 and 226)
  • two medikits (232 and 233)
