MAP02: Officer Orientation is the second map of Nerves of Steel. It was designed by Mike MacDee (Impie) and uses the music track "Chaingun In My Hands" from Duke Nukem: Total Meltdown.

Essentials[edit]

Clear the lobby and adjoining office, and flip the two office switches to open the lobby and office doors respectively. The office door leads to a windowed room with red, blue, and yellow doors arranged in a row, guarded by Cyborg Enforcers.

The lobby door leads to a two-way fork: right is the sewer entrance, left is the dungeon. Take the left first, down the stairs to the dungeon, and grab the radiation suit. Then go into the sewers and fight the Wraith ambush for the yellow keycard. You should have just enough time with the radiation suit to make it back to safety.

Return to the three colored doors and unlock them in sequence: the blue keycard is behind the yellow door, guarded by Stormtroopers. Behind the blue door is the red keycard, but it is just out of reach. Kill everything in the offices and flip the switch on the far wall, guarded by a pair of Toshiba Turrets. When the switch is flipped, the red keycard is accessible, but two Goroze chaingun bosses will be released as well. Unlock the red door, kill the Cyborg Enforcer, and hit the exit switch.

Secrets[edit]

Many of the soda machines dispense a single stimpack.

  1. The first soda machine you come across opens a secret area across the lobby from the office: it conceals a platoon of Stormtroopers and an AA-12 auto-shotgun. (sector 56)
  2. One of the pillars in the colored door room has a switch on it, which opens one of the windows and allows you outside. (sector 40) Kill the Zero Guard and Cyborg Enforcer (take out the troops in the watchtower as well) and take the teleporter to a secret ventilation shaft containing a seeker missile launcher.
  3. The dungeon grates mark a false wall leading to a secret office and a Cyborg Enforcer ambush. If you survive, your reward is a plasma repeater. (sector 88)
