MAP02: The Cataract is the second map of Obituary. It was designed by Thomas Möller.

Walkthrough[edit]

Essentials[edit]

Kill the two shotgun guys in front of you and collect the super shotgun, then climb the blood steps and proceed south to a green hallway. Follow the hallway past some zombiemen (and an arachnotron on Hurt Me Plenty (HMP) skill level or higher) to a door and open it to face more zombiemen and a bazooka man, then go south-east through another door (more zombies will be released behind you) and flip the switch behind it to raise a staircase. Open the door at the top of the stairs to enter a marble hall, which contains a mancubus on HMP or higher, then head north through another door to enter a room with one to three spectres; watch out for the zombies that are released behind you as you cross the room.

Go north through another door to enter a fenced room with shotgun guys, then run west over a nukage stream and approach the brown block on the other side to lower the north wall and reveal a mancubus. Go past the mancubus and cross another nukage stream to reach a gargoyle switch, press it to lower the brown block and reveal a teleporter, then use that teleporter to go to a curved ledge which is guarded by lost souls. Press the satyr switch at the east end of the ledge, then return to the teleporter and retrace your steps to the wooden hall on the east side of the map—one of the silver alcoves by the north door has opened to reveal a hole, which goes down to a shotgun guy (plus a pain elemental on Ultra-Violence and Nightmare) guarding a chaingun and the yellow skull key.

Use the moving platform to go back up to the wooden hall, open the yellow door at the south end and follow the hallway round to a crate room. Pick up the berserk pack at the north end of the room to lower the floor beneath it, then kill the demons waiting in the room below and collect the blue keycard at the north end. Open the door west of the blue key and follow the passage round to a slime room with more demons, then climb the nukage steps on the west side of the room to reach the exit door. Open this door with the blue key and press the skull switch behind it to end the level.

Official[edit]

  1. When you reach the switch that raises the stairs at the south end of the map, do not press it. Instead, go to the end of the hall and open the wooden door here, then open a second door in the north-east corner to find a berserk pack. Open the east wall to find a chainsaw and a teleporter. (sector 78)
  2. Use the teleporter in secret #1 to go to a room with zombies, then open the brown wall in the north-east corner to enter the neighboring room that initially only contains one zombieman. (sector 227) Walking through the room will lower the east wall, revealing more zombiemen along with rockets and shotgun shells. Open the door at the bottom of the steps to find a shotgun, two medikits and a supercharge.
  3. In the north-east room with the spectres, open the pipe wall in the south-west corner to find a berserk pack. (sector 103)
  4. Entering the stone room with shotgun guys at the north end of the map opens a closet to the east. Open the south-east wall of this closet to find a spectre guarding four stimpacks and a box of bullets. (sector 139)
  5. From the blue key, go west through a door to enter a small tunnel with a light on the west wall. Open the wall opposite this light to find a berserk pack, which is guarded by shotgun guys on HMP or higher. (sector 197)
  6. Open the east wall of secret #5 to get a backpack. (sector 183)

Non-official[edit]

  • Enter the nukage at the north end of the map and run east and south through it to find a megasphere.
  • After opening the teleporter inside the brown block, go back to the previous room where a closet with two demons and chaingunners has opened. Enter the closet to lower a platform behind you with a supercharge.
  • In the crate room, climb up the gray crates on the west side of the room to get on top of the brown crates, then press the stack of eight boxes to lower it like a lift. Ride the boxes up and run south-east to reach a crate with a rocket launcher, which will open a closet to the north containing chaingunners, then shoot the gargoyle switch in this closet to open a lift next to the berserk pack. Ride the lift up to a teleporter and use it to go to a red room, then open the protruding south-east wall to get a megasphere.
