- A small indoor map done by Method himself. It's one of our very few maps reminding good old doom1 techbases.
Walkthrough[edit]
Essentials[edit]
There will be zombies that will immediately attack you at the start, so be prepared and quick beginning this map. You can immediately see the keys on platforms in the middle of your starting room, but invisible walls prohibit you from grabbing them right now. In your starting room there are 5 doors. You can open them in any order you desire, but in this walkthrough the order will be: south-east, north-east and north-west. The south-western area is not required to finish the level, but it houses a secret. Open the south-eastern door and the door beyond it. Kill all the enemies in the next hallway, then find a door and open it. All you have to do in this room is to flip a switch to lower two bars in the hallway, allowing you to continue the map. Back into the hallway, go upstairs and you'll be in front of a bridge and a teleport. When you approach the bridge, several zombies will teleport in the starting room. If you take the teleport, you'll be surrounded by them, so it's recommended to go back to the starting room through the hallway, clean the room from all the hostilities and THEN take the teleport. You're now free to grab the yellow key. Now open the north-eastern door and ride a lift up. This next area has several traps: when you proceed further into the new hallway, two zombies will be released behind you; stepping a little bit further will rise some imps from the floor (beware, it's really easy to trigger both traps at the same time); around the bend are some zombies; when you grab the second stimpack in the hallway, two walls in it will rise up revealing more enemies. After all this traps, flip the only switch on this area and take a new teleport to grab the blue key. Now that you're back into the starting room, open the north-eastern door and take the teleport. You'll be immediately attacked by near and far enemies, and there is really nowhere to hide (you're on a thin platform without walls). Use your rocket launcher and shotgun wisely. Proceeding further on the platform, you'll trigger several imps traps, so it's better to have the chainsaw or (if you took a berserk pack from before) your fists ready. The two switches at the ends of the platform will allow you to take two teleports. Both of them will take you back to the starting room, where you can grab the red key. Open the northern door in the room and exit the level.
Other points of interest[edit]
As you might have noticed reading the walkthrough, there are no locked doors in this map, even though there are all three keys. Does this mean that they're useless and it's possible to immediately finish the map without them? Not exactly. If you open the northern and final door right at the start, you'll see three bars (one yellow, one blue and one red) blocking your way to the exit teleport. In each section of the level, when you take a teleport back to the starting room, you'll be on a platform with a key. Stepping out of the platform will lower one of the three bars in the northern room. After you've grabbed all three keys (and you've stepped out of all the platforms), all three bars will have gone. That's probably the reason why the level is called "The Hidden Engine".
Secrets[edit]
Official[edit]
- In the room with a chainsaw (southwest from the hub area with all keys), press a computer with the previously mentioned chainsaw laying on it to reveal a partial invisibility nearby. (sector 138)
Non-official[edit]
- In the black room in the southeastern part of the map, you can press on a part of the southern wall with an electricity symbol on it to reveal a super shotgun.
