MAP03: Ritual Grounds is the third map of Judgment. It was designed by Blake Collins (Rayziik) and uses the music track "Sunset Over Babylon," originally composed by James Paddock (Jimmy) for Jenesis. The par time is 8:15. In the Retrial edition this level received fairly small changes in both geometry and things population.

Essentials[edit]

You start on the southern side of a raised T-shaped walkway, close to the southwestern corner of the map. As soon as you walk north, four square platforms will rise up to surround the catwalk with dark imps. Go west to the chamber in the shape of a cross. There will be some dark imps and chaingunners at the western end, and a blue skull on a raised platform in the center. Kill the chaingunners and activate the switch on the same side to open up extensions to the chambers on the northern and southern sides of the room. The northern one will contain a mancubus while the other contains an arachnotron. You will have to pass them both to activate the newly revealed switches behind them on the far northern and southern sides.

The activation of both switches will spawn in numerous dark imps, former marines, and lords of heresy on the ground level, as well as numerous imps, chaingunners, and revenants on the closed-off ledge on the western side of the room. Be aggressive with these monsters, because you will be boxed in when they start spawning. Once you have dispatched them, you can grab the blue skull in the middle of the room.

Go back out the chamber and through the eastern door to reveal a large outdoor area with a bridge in the center of it. Use the blocks in the blood to the north to reach the bridge and fight your way down the eastern staircase and into northeastern area, which is populated with dark imps, demons, mancubi, and a single lord of heresy perched atop a tower in the center. Once this area is clear, you are in a better position to travel through the northeastern blue door. The room therein contains a pain elemental, but will quickly spawn in a few Hell knights as you enter. Once you have defeated them, activate the switch to lower the walls that block you from entering the northwestern section of the map.

Backtrack to the western side of the northeastern open area, and cross the lava underneath the bridge. There are some demons, a mancubus, and a couple of Hell knights waiting for you on the other side, as well as an arachnotron and some dark imps on the far northwestern elevator. The elevator itself will spawn a revenant and a Hell knight once activated.

Use the elevator and head to the area immediately south, which is directly north of the spawn point. There will be some Hell knights here, and a yellow skull on a raised platform, as well as a rocket launcher with ammo and a switch. Activate the switch to lower the skull and spawn a large group of dark imps and Hell knights, which will result in some infighting, but also make it difficult to use the rockets that you just picked up.

Once you have the yellow skull, backtrack to the eastern staircase to get to the yellow door on the southeastern side of the map. As you go through, the door will lock shut as a lord of heresy and several baby cacodemons spawn in. Dispatch these monsters in the small enclosed area, or run beyond them to get to the exit switch and end the level.

  1. In the northernmost room, use the north switch to get a soul sphere. (sector 379)
  2. In the northeast room, use the switch on the north green torch to open a teleporter to a soul sphere or a megaarmor depending on your skill level. (sector 478)
  3. At the northwest end, go to the rooms with rockets and open the middle wall to get backpacks, a plasma gun, and a medikit. (sector 619)
  4. In the blue key area, head south from the key and use the wall to the east with the satyr face under it to find a computer area map. (sector 738)
  5. On the steps to the minigun, go to the base of the steps and use the skull eyes on the northwest side. Climb the steps and get the super shotgun at the top. (sector 754)
