MAP03: The Fortress is the third map of Into Sandy's Cities. It was designed by GermanPeter.

Walkthrough[edit]

Essentials[edit]

When you start, turn right. You can get a shotgun and the red keycard, but there are some imps here, and a monster closet will open up in the starting room with some demons, a box of shells, and a stimpack. Go back to the starting room, take the other exit from it, and go up the stairs. There are some more imps here, kill them all, and then go up the stairs onto the ledge. There is a set of four shotgun shells here, and another set across a small gap you can just walk over. There is a lift here that will lower after you step on it, so do so.

This next part is a large open area. You will begin facing the backs of a large number of imps, but if you do not shoot them, the heavy weapon dude(s) across the area will provoke them into infighting, otherwise the crossing will likely be a painful one. Watch out for the lost souls to your left, too. Once you have killed them all, grab the armor bonuses, and cross the bridge in the center of the area, but watch out for the ledge that opens up to your right with imps. Deal with them using the chaingun in the center of the bridge.

Once you cross the bridge, in the overhung area (there is a shotgun guy here, and a lift you can lower to get a box of bullets and the heavy weapon dudes’ chainguns), turn left and take the stairs down. There is a path of armor bonuses here leading to the water in the open area, which has health bonuses and some clips, and you can lower a lift here to get another box of bullets. Pull the switch in the middle of the bridge to get to the other side, where there are some more health bonuses, a set of four shotgun shells, and a stimpack. You can then take the middle of the bridge as a lift to get back up. Go back to the overhung area, and turn right.

There are some zombiemen and a heavy weapon dude on HMP skill level or harder on top of the ledge. Kill them, then take the stairs up from behind the overhung area. There is an alcove here with more former humans, and another box of bullets. Take the lift here down.

You will immediately be facing a large number of former humans, use the chaingun to mow them down quickly before they can respond, then go left. There is a spectre here, and a heavy weapon dude and shotgun guy on a ledge with the blue keycard. Open the red door and leave.

Secrets[edit]

  1. At the central bridge, head north through the water corridor and use the south wall in there that looks different. Take the lift up to a soul sphere. (sector 27)
  2. Re-enter the corridor and open the west wall to find a teleporter. This takes you to a super shotgun. (sector 87)
  3. Go back to the central bridge and take the silver lift to the north up. Press the switch there and run west, then south to another lift. Take it up, then head south and east to a wall. Open it to find a teleporter to a megaarmor. (sector 93)
  4. After getting the blue key, return to where the red key was and open the door to get a rocket launcher and rockets. (sector 104)
