MAP04: Free Press is the fourth map of Arrival. It was designed by Walker Wright (Pavera) and uses the music track "Pressure Cooker" by Brayden Hart (AD_79).

Walkthrough[edit]

Essentials[edit]

Go up the steps in front of you to get a chaingun then press the skull switch to lower three walls, revealing a room ahead with one or two cyberdemons as well as some shotgun guys behind you. Go through the east doorway and run past four crushers to reach a lava pool, then follow the trail of health bonuses around the pool to enter a room with shotgun guys and revenants. Flip the switch on the east wall to raise a staircase behind you, then deal with the arch-vile that appears on the platform to your right before climbing up there to flip a second switch, which will raise another staircase to the north. Kill the shotgun guys and chaingunners that appear then go up the stairs you just raised to another crusher, then turn left at this point to see a third switch that will raise more stairs behind you.

Go up the stairs and head west past two more crushers to a skull switch, which will lower a wall to the north, then go through that wall and continue north past some chaingunners and cacodemons to enter the red key room; the key is on the square platform in the center of the room, guarded by the cyberdemons you saw earlier. It is possible to run past the cyberdemons to get the key, but alternatively you can press the skull switch on the west wall to lower a pillar with a supercharge, then collect that supercharge to activate a crusher above the red key; doing so causes a number of arachnotrons and other monsters to teleport in. Once you have the key, open the red door at the east end of the room to see chaingunners guarding a skull switch, which will lower the walls to your left and right revealing revenants and the blue keycard.

From the blue key, step forward to drop into a lava pit then run to the blue door at the south-east end, which leads to an outdoor area with many zombies. Go down either staircase in this area and pass through the wooden arch at the bottom to find another crusher, which you can step past to find a button that raises a step at the top of the stairs. Press the skull switch above this step to activate more crushers and lower a wall at the bottom of the stairs, then kill the arachnotrons that appear behind you before going down the stairs to find some imps and mancubi protecting another switch. Press this switch and kill one or two arch-viles that are released to the east, then go west to return to the crusher area; from here you can return to the starting point and go down the steps here to reach the exit door, which has the exit switch directly behind it.

Secrets[edit]

  1. In the crusher area east of the start, before the first crusher, open the south wall and flip the switch. Quickly run east and north to a corridor of health bonuses and a computer area map. (sector 70)
  2. Go through the east wall near secret #1 to get energy cells. (sector 97)
  3. Open the red door, use the switch, and go north. In this room, lower the left monitor and follow the path to a megasphere. (sector 386)
  4. At the east end with health bonuses and partial invisibility, lower the east wall and take the teleporter to get an invulnerability. (sector 354) Entering the secret causes one or two cyberdemons to teleport in.

Bugs[edit]

The fences at the entrance to the red key room (linedefs 986 and 989) are non-solid and can be walked through.
