Map of The Arrival
Letters in italics refer to marked spots on the map. Sector, thing, and linedef numbers in boldface are secrets which count toward the end-of-level tally.

You start off on a landed spacecraft and can immediately pick up a berserk pack, grab what other supplies you can in the initial room, then leave through the door and go up the stairs, killing the zombies and imps standing in your way. There are three doors from here, with the left and right ones being currently locked. Enter the middle door and take out the imps, and avoid getting shot at by the zombies behind the grates on both sides: each chamber has a switch that opens the two doors from earlier. The rooms they lead to are both necessary to clear in order to unlock the exit.

Exiting the middle room, the left door leads to a small laboratory with demons, imps and shotgunners. Pressing two switches here will unlock the door to the exit area, but also open a small opening to the chaingunner alcove from secret 3, which can surprise the player if not cleared earlier. The right door on the other hand leads to a reactor surrounded by more imps and shotgunners. Flipping the switch at the back here will make an additional two-sided switch appear in front of the reactor: pressing the left side opens the door the player came from, and pressing the right side lowers the bars blocking the exit area, but also causes cacodemons to teleport in from the reactor.

With both rooms cleared, the way to the exit now lies open, back down the stairs, and it is guarded by a Hell knight and a cacodemon (or two Hell knights on Ultra-Violence). Kill the first knight, open the door to the left and eliminate the few remaining enemies in this room, and in the back flip the switch that unlocks the exit teleporter which you can then take to finish the level.

Other points of interest[edit]

  1. Use the crate south of the starting shuttle to get twenty-five health bonuses. (sector 21)
  2. Use the switch at the start, then run northwest to the lowered crate for a megaarmor. (sector 78)
  3. Open the door east of the starting point and head south at the intersection. At the next bend, use the south wall where the dead bodies are to find a super shotgun behind former humans. (sector 139)
