MAP04 is the fourth map of Vae Victus. It was designed by Derek Braun (Dittohead) and uses a MIDI rendition of "The Library" by Masami Ueda, from Resident Evil 2 (sequenced by aNti-MaN), as its music track.

Other points of interest[edit]
Secrets[edit]
- In the halls east of the yellow key library, go to the north shelf and lower it to get stimpacks, energy cell packs, and a green armor. (sector 350)
- In the room with nukage at the northwest end, go to the radiation suit in the northeast corner and open the wall to find a megasphere. (sector 772)
Bugs[edit]
Though the text file included in the Vae Victus release states it is for limit-removing source ports, it is specifically designed for ZDoom and the game mechanic alterations this port applies by default. This level has issues when playing on some other limit-removing engines, such as Doom 1.9 emulation in DSDA-Doom.
- This level is normally unplayable under limit-removing Doom 1.9 emulation because the door in the starting room has a walkover trigger linedef placed in front of it that blocks use attempts at the door. ZDoom allows use to pass through this line, and DSDA-Doom allows this mechanic for casual play using the option "Use passes thru all special lines".
- It is possible to open this door in spite of use attempts being blocked by the trigger by using a squeeze glide to become flush against the door and then pressing it.
- In the large open area, there are hanging corpses (e.g. thing 187) that block the player trying to move far below them, which can be confusing. In ZDoom (or GZDoom), it is possible to walk below them.
The buttons (linedefs 2011, 2035) leading to the yellow key do not change their textures when pressed. This is because the button linedefs have button textures on both their bottom parts and obscured upper parts, and the Doom engine only changes the upper texture when both are the same texture.
The nukage at secret #2 is meant to deal damage, however the nukage-floored doorway to the secret is harmless, and the clean-floored megasphere platform deals damage as though it was also nukage.
A multiplayer-only chaingun (thing 419) and ditto rocket launcher (420) have no flags set for any of the three difficulty classes, so they do not actually appear in the level.
