MAP05: Frozen Sands is the fifth map of Hexen Upstart Mapping Project. It was designed by VIE-rus and uses the music track "".

Open the tan door in front of you and step through to a T-shaped bridge, noting the green chaos serpent to your left (and two centaurs ahead on hard skill levels). Jump to the ledge on the east side with three ettins and open the wooden door here, then go down the stairs to a dark hall with ice blocks. Head south, watching out for wendigos waiting in ambush, to a pair of isolated ice blocks and walk between them to find a torch, activate it then go to the north-east corner of the hall to find a face switch and some mana. Press the switch then go back to the T-bridge and proceed through the now-open east door.

Drop into the water in front of you then proceed to the door in the north-east corner, watching out for stalkers that might try to ambush you. Open the door to enter a small abbatoir and kill a waiting ettin, then head south down some stairs to a stone room and slay a brown chaos serpent and two centaurs waiting at the bottom. Go to the south side of the room and time your run past some crushing spikes, then follow the path past a stalker to an icy room where wendigos and a slaughtaur are guarding (depending on player class) a piece of the Wraithverge, Bloodscourge or Quietus. Press the switch here to lower a wall leading back to the dark hall, but arm yourself before stepping through as the ice blocks will lower to reveal reivers.

Go back to the T-bridge and pass through the east door again, but this time follow the tan walkway west to find that another door has opened revealing a chain switch guarded by two brown serpents. Pull the switch to open a door in MAP02: Garden of Torture, then return to the starting point and enter the portal to go back to that map.

Other points of interest[edit]

From the T-bridge, go through the south-west door and follow the path to a room with a fog-filled pool of water. Go round to the north side to find a switch that will lower a pillar holding Boots of Speed.


  1. Get the torch at the south end of the dark hall, activate it then go to the west side to find a wall with a skull carving. Open this wall to enter a seemingly empty chamber, then shoot the north wall to collapse it and reveal four crystal vials, plus a reiver on hard skill levels. (sector 109)
  2. Press the switch in the south-east room to open a wall leading back to the dark hall, then walk through it to lower all the ice blocks and reveal reivers. Now go to the room on the west side of the map with the foggy pool, drop into it and walk through the open section of the north wall. (sector 296) The tunnel here leads to a mesh armor, three fléchettes and a Dark Servant.
