MAP05: The Spectre's Manse is the fifth map of Arrival. It was designed by Walker Wright (Pavera) and uses the music track "Inhabitants" by Brayden Hart (AD_79).

Essentials[edit]
Enter the small doorway to your left and go up the steps to find an armor, then press the skull switch to reveal a button to the east that will lower the lift next to it. Go through to an area with some health bonuses and climb to the top of the staircase, then go east and north to a chainsaw and enter its alcove to lower the floor, dropping you into a blood pool with spectres. Go west to a room with a chaingun and imps and press the skull switch here, then go east into a large room with a rocket launcher, which is overlooked by zombiemen and shotgun guys. Press the button at the east end to raise a staircase behind you, then kill the two arch-viles that appear on that staircase before going through the door at the top to enter a room with a blood pit. You can see the red skull key on a pillar at the north end of the pit, along with a super shotgun below it.
Go to the staircase at the north-east end of the pit, noting the revenants and other enemies that appear behind you, then go up the stairs and head east to another staircase which will put you above the rocket launcher room. Press the skull switch at the west end of the ledge to lower a wall behind you, kill the arch-vile waiting behind it then step past the wall and go east past two barons of Hell to a door. Go through the door and head north past an arachnotron and some shotgun guys to enter an enclosure, then press the skull switch in the south-east corner to lower the north-west wall and bring in some revenants and spectres. Pass through the wall and go west and south to another button, which will lower the curved wall to your right, then kill the waiting arachnotron and go through the door behind it. Follow the path west and push past some revenants and chaingunners, then turn left to see a berserk pack ahead; taking it lowers two walls behind you revealing spectres, revenants and an arch-vile, and allows imps and zombies to teleport in.
After clearing the ambush, go west and south to a zigzag bridge guarded by another arch-vile and arachnotrons and cross it, then open the door on the other side and climb the stairs to a skull switch protected by two chaingunners. Press the switch then go through the window that opens at the bottom of the stairs to return to the red key, which you can now collect along with the supercharge on the pillar behind it. Drop into the blood below the supercharge and kill the cyberdemon and mancubi approaching from the east, then open the red door at the south-east end to find a teleporter that leads back to where you found the chainsaw. Go up the steps in front of you and go north at the top to find some health bonuses, press the button to activate a lift and ride it up, then go up the steps to a red door which is guarded by some imps. Open the door and run through it to close it behind you, which will stop you being ambushed by two revenants, then kill a waiting arachnotron and press the skull switch behind it to reveal a partial invisibility and two teleporters. The left-hand teleporter will take you to the yellow key.
From the yellow key, go south-west through an archway marked by yellow skulls and kill any waiting revenants, then go through the door here and head west at the bottom of the steps to a sealed door. Press the button to your left to activate a lift and ride it up, then go east and north around the lava pit with the blue skull key to find a Hell knight and baron protecting another button. Press the button to open the sealed door you passed earlier, deal with two arch-viles waiting behind it then go through the wall and head south-west to a staircase guarded by revenants. Follow the trail of health and armor bonuses at the top of the stairs then go east to a third button and press it to lower the wall, then run north across a pair of platforms that have risen to reach the teleporter on the other side. Enter the teleporter to teleport to the cliff above the blue key, which you can now collect; you will also land on a radiation shielding suit when you teleport.
With the blue key, drop into the lava below and press the skull switch to lower a lift so you can climb out; watch out for the revenant (and arch-vile on Hurt Me Plenty skill level or higher) that are released to your left. Return to where you found the yellow key then go north-east through the valley to a platform where some arachnotrons have appeared, then climb up the steps and go south into a tunnel with an exit sign. Enter the nukage at the bottom of the steps and open the blue exit door to reach the final skull switch.
Other points of interest[edit]
After opening the two teleporters at the south-east end of the map, enter the right-hand teleporter to go to a ledge with a supercharge.
Secrets[edit]
- At the zigzag bridge, fall to the north-west and enter the cave. Take the west teleporter and follow the armor bonuses to a supercharge. (sector 417)
- On your way to the yellow key, you may notice a ledge with two medikits to the west. Jump there and follow the ledge to a megaarmor. (sector 599)
Non-official[edit]
- After lowering the curved wall on the east side of the large blood pit, drop into the pit and go west until you pass a teleporter. Enter the teleporter to go to the computer area map at the east end of the map. You must enter this teleporter before getting the red key, as it will rise out of reach at that point.
