No Rest for the Living maps
This level occupies the map slot MAP05. For other maps which occupy this slot, see Category:MAP05.

MAP05: Vivisection is the fifth map of No Rest for the Living. It was designed by Arya Iwakura and uses the music track "Into Sandy's City". The par time is 3:30. In the version released as an official add-on, it utilises the red hellish sky of Doom II (SKY3) instead of the default one featuring brown clouds (SKY1), thanks to DMAPINFO.

Other points of interest[edit]

Secrets[edit]

  1. Open the door in the south part of your starting area, following the corridor to the west, and then south. On making the second corner, a linedef is activated. Run back to the starting room. The eastern wall will be temporarily open (sector 515), allowing you to grab four shotgun shells and two rockets behind the northeastern bars. Ascend the stairs to the east to find a shotgunner and a chaingunner. The path to the south leads to a soul sphere.
  2. Go through the corridor mentioned in secret #1, but do not turn south following it. Open the door and descend the stairs. Press the part of the north wall with a torch to reveal a cacodemon and another passageway (sector 112) outside leading to an area where you will find a box of bullets, two clips, eight shotgun shells, and an armor. Follow the blood floor to the east to find a rocket launcher that can be reached by pressing the lion switch to the east of the pillar it lies on. This also releases an ambush, coming from the north of the rocket launcher. There, you will find two boxes of rockets. Follow the valley counter-clockwise to find three clips, two boxes of bullets, four sets of shells, eight rockets, a box of rockets, a stimpack, five health bonuses, and a berserk pack, guarded by monsters, including hitscan enemies (zombiemens on ITYTD and HNTR, shotgunners on HMP, or chaingunners on UV and NM skill levels). Press the lion switch to the south of the bars to return to the building you came from.
  3. The pillar where the rocket launcher lies in secret #2 counts as another secret. (sector 597)
  4. West of the yellow key is a marble-made arch-vile face. Press it to lower. Behind it (sector 137) you will find a medikit, two rockets, and three armor bonuses.
  5. Press the lion switch to the southeast of the blue key, dropping you in front of an imp's cage. Turn around and press the gargoyle switch before the platform raises back. This will open a wall at the eastern part of the hallway that leads to the blue key, revealing a chainsaw, four health bonuses, four armor bonuses, and two stimpacks, guarded either by four pinkies (ITYTD & HNTR) or spectres (all others) (sector 650). Enter the northern passage to return to the corridor leading to the yellow door.
  6. Press the lion switch to the northeast of the blue key to lower the computer area map inside secret #5. Grab it before the pillar (sector 658) rises back.
  7. In the area behind the blue door (the one with the ambush of imps and Hell knights, among other demons) is the western canvas that has a pentagram on it on the southern wall. It can be pressed on to reveal a cacodemon and yet another passage (sector 608) outside. There is a switch in the northwest corner that will lower the megaarmor pillar. Approaching it opens a closet in the south, containing five pinkies, five health bonuses, and two rockets.
  8. Facing the door leading to the exit area, the second canvas on the wall to the south can be pressed on to reveal three rockets, two health bonuses, and three armor bonuses (sector 524).
