MAP06: Somewhere in Time is the sixth map of Doom 2 In City Only. It was designed by Late Night Person and uses a MIDI rendition of "Music Stage 8" from Thunder Force IV (sequenced by Matze) as its music track.

Other points of interest[edit]

Secrets[edit]

  1. In the vent shaft that leads to the blue keycard, go east to the candle and shoot the north wall to open the wall behind you. Take the teleporter to get a megasphere. (sector 127)
  2. After getting the blue key, head to the alley west of Secret #1 and go southwest to a door. Open it to get a plasma gun and an energy cell pack. (sector 163)
  3. Head to the north street and head northeast. The switch for this garage door requires the yellow key. Open the door to find an energy cell pack and a BFG9000. (sector 453)
  4. In the park, go to the southeast to see a megaarmor on a rock. Use the tree west of the rock to lower the megaarmor. (sector 892)
  5. In order to get this secret and Secret #6, you need to make it to the end of the level without using any of the three phone booths in the map (each of which requires a key). Lower the four lifts leading to the exit area, and step on each of them before going up (this will help prevent the secrets from being permanently accessible). By stepping on any of these lifts just once, the right side of the upper floor will be closed. After stepping on the lifts, go back and use each of the three phone booths (the one requiring the red key is just outside the north building, the one requiring the blue key is at the south side, and the yellow key phone booth is in the park). Return to the upper floor and you can enter the vent shaft with shotgun shells. Note that these three phone booths can be used only once, and if you stepped on the lifts after using just one of the booths, the secret and Secret #6 will be permanently inaccessible. (sector 1039)
  6. In Secret #5, jump down and enter the area with nukage. The island has a computer area map, weapons, a berserk pack, a megasphere, an invulnerability, a box of rockets, and an energy cell pack. (sector 1045)
  7. At the north street, open the east door (requires the red key) to find a soul sphere and energy cell packs. (sector 1090)

Inspiration and development[edit]

Trivia[edit]

  • The primary inspiration for this map is Iron Maiden's sixth album, which is also what the map is named after. Several references to the band's imagery and songs are sprinkled throughout the map.
  • Early versions of the map used a MIDI rendition of "Stranger in a Strange Land" by Iron Maiden. It was removed over copyright concerns.
