MAP06: The Hanger [sic] is the sixth map of 32 in 24, a deathmatch megawad. It was designed by leileilol and uses the music track " ".

This was the ninth submission to the project, arriving just under five hours into the session. According to the author, it took 57 minutes to build.

Map layout[edit]

Relative to most deathmatch maps, The Hanger is quite large. In fact, it occupies an area of 5504x4352 map units, making it the largest map in the WAD. Most of the map area is inside a large building with multiple rooms, spanning from the east of the map over to the centre. The building ranges from moderately lit areas in the south, to darker ones in the north. The easternmost room is unusal is that parts of the floor are raised such that they form a phrase written in kanji. The symbols are fullbright, and various items are placed atop them, the rest of the room is quite dark. The rocket launcher and chainsaw are hidden amongst the symbols.

The octagonal room west of the kanji room contains a central structure, of which the interior is extremely dark, save for the lights spelling out "LOL." This structure contains the chaingun, a megaarmor, and also a blue keycard, which is effectively useless. A radiation suit is provided at each corner of the structure's exterior.

Going west from here, the players can access the southern half of an outdoor area, which is very brightly lit and is divided in two by a deep chasm with a river of nukage at the bottom. Another rocket launcher can be found here, and the three brick structures are tall enough to provide cover from other players, but the player will still be visible if standing behind them. The northern half of the outdoor area contains a soulsphere in the middle of a small nukage pool, in reference to Doom E1M1. The only way to get to this is to jump to the northern half from the central window of the building that overlooks the river. A separate section of the building is accessed here, it contains a chaingun, and a corridor leading to a teleporter which leads back to the octagonal room, and directly behind spawn #5.

The nukage river leads into a dark cave. Inside the cave, steps on the left lead to an elevated ledge with a shotgun, backpack, green armor and some shotgun shells. Directly opposite the ledge is an annex to the building, illuminated by a single lamp placed next to a chaingun. The stairs lead back to the northern end of the main building. The only other way to leave the cave is by following the river further and jumping into a deep pit, where players will find a teleporter, which also leads to the northern end of the building.

Player spawns[edit]

This map contains five spawn points:

  1. In the south-west of the building, by the entrance from the outdoor area, facing south-west. A shotgun and box of shells are provided next to this spawn point. (thing 34)
  2. In the south-west corner of the outdoor area, facing north. The rocket launcher and some rocket boxes are nearby, but will take about a second to reach. (thing 35)
  3. In the elevated section of the cave, facing south-east. A shotgun, green armor, and ammo are provided. This spawn is very isolated, with the nearest spawn point (#2) being over 2000 map units away. (thing 36)
  4. At the south end of the kanji room, facing north. The chainsaw is the closest weapon, and a rocket launcher is also found here, but will take a couple of seconds to reach. Players can gain a health boost from the health bonuses placed on the two symbols immediately in front of this spawn point, however. (thing 145)
  5. In the octagonal room, south of the LOL structure, facing north. Only the chainsaw is very close, though the chaingun and megaarmor can be reached in a couple of seconds. Players should be wary of the teleport destination behind this spawn point - especially as the arriving player may have taken the soulsphere. (thing 146)
