Essentials[edit]

There are ten large gems in this map that can be collected, though none are mandatory to exit. However, without collecting all gems as well as avoiding coming into contact with any of the meteors, several sections of the map and the exit to MAP09 will remain inaccessible.

  • From the start, turn around, and head down the middle of the three tunnels. Go up the stairs, and work yourself through the meteor obstacle course. Once you arrive on the platform at the eastern side of the room, press the satyr switch, and jump over the large, round platforms in the outside area to the east to reach the silver gem (#1) floating in the air between two of them. Note that this will lower the bars in the starting room, giving you access to the rest of the level.
  • From the start, go through the opening at the southwest corner of the room, and jump onto the low, round block to the left of the staircase you come down to reach the ledge on the eastern wall of the room. Jump up onto the higher round block in the south from there, and cross over to the ledge on the western wall of the room. Jump to the round block southwest from there, and reach the cross-shaped wooden structure. From here you can jump to the wooden pillar with the silver gem (#2) sitting on top of it. Note that this will lower the bars in the starting room, giving you access to the rest of the level.
  • Once you enter the wide outside area of the map, you drop to a patch of land with a see-through elevator column and two narrow waterfalls to the northwest of it. Hop onto the low ledge at the eastern edge of the area, and jump over to the stone pillar topped with a torch to the northeast (this jump is quite tight since most of the pillar is behind another stone column adjacent to the ledge you're standing on). From here, jump to the larger stone column directly to the west and on from there to the column with the silver gem (#3) on it.
  • Work yourself up the meteor obstacle course on the island in the northern part of the map to collect a silver gem (#4) on the summit as your reward.
  • Enter the large temple structure in the eastern part of the map, and from the crossing where you press the skull switch that lowered into the ground, head south into room with the brick-walled building on the left and the lion switch on your right. Press the switch, and jump up onto the ledge beneath the dark green waterfall, and hop over to the next higher platform to the southeast. Run along the narrow path, and jump into the window in the south. Hop over to the barred shelf in the east, and run over to the window in the north. Now jump over to the window opposite your position to the north (SR50), and then hop into the small cage with the silver gem (#5) before the bars close again. You only have twelve seconds to complete this entire run, so there is very little margin for errors.
  • Enter the large temple structure in the eastern part of the map, and from the crossing where you press the skull switch that lowered into the ground, head south into room with the brick-walled building on the left and the lion switch on your right. Jump through the window in the south and drop onto the ground beyond. Run along the path, and press the switch around the corner up on the ledge. Jump over to the narrow ledge along the southern wall below the ivy, and jump back into the window you came from. Hop over to the now opened window to the east, drop onto the ledge to the north, and press against the bookshelf in the eastern wall. The wall next to you will lower to reveal a furnace with another silver gem (#6) beside it.
  • Run through the meteor obstacle course that covers the entire length of the central hallway in the large temple structure in the eastern part of the map. At the end of it, hop into either of the two small openings, and enter the dark chamber beyond with the huge wooden pavilion inside of it that has a silver gem (#7) sitting in it in a small alcove.
  • From the central hallway inside the large temple structure in the eastern part of the map, move to the end of the northern arm, hop onto the hedge below the wooden wall, and run up the short steps in this hedge towards the east. From here, jump to the platform inside the tall, wooden structure to the south, turn east, and jump across the trench in the ground to the wooden structure on the other side. Turn south, and jump into the tunnel marked by a candle. Run up the stairs, and straferun across the path below into the tunnel on the opposite side with the silver gem (#8) in it.
  • From the central hallway inside the large temple structure in the eastern part of the map, move into the northern arm, and drop into the trench in the ground to the east. Walk north into the small hedge maze, and ride up the lift at its end by quickly running from the corner with one candle, to the corner with two, and then with three, and catch the lift before it raises again. Press against the northern blocked doorway in the room you enter to open the doorway directly south of it. Run up the stairs across the gap into a room with a silver gem (#9) on a short wooden pillar in the middle of it.
  • From the central hallway inside the large temple structure in the eastern part of the map, move into the northern arm, jump over the trench in the floor in the east, and ride up the small lift at the end of the short, narrow tunnel with the three small, wooden pillars in the middle. Alternatively, drop into the narrow gap just outside the room where you found the previous gem to reach the same lift. Inside the room overgrown with ivy that you entered, with the convex layout and the green accelerator stairs at its southwestern end, press the switch in the eastern wall, quickly cross the room, and drop into the elevator shaft at the north end before the lift raises again. Take the lift to the north, and jump over the two meteor obstacles to reach the high-up ledge with the last silver gem (#10) on it.

Most small gems in the map are found along the way to finding all large gems and the official and non-official secret areas. However, a few are found in more out-of-the-way places.

  • Once you enter the wide outside area of the map, you drop to a patch of land with a transparent elevator column and two narrow waterfalls to the northwest of it. Position yourself to the north of the see-through elevator column, on the patch of soil right next to the single gravestone, and SR50 west off the edge towards the space between the two giant columns in the distance. Keep the jump button depressed and you will get a second jump that will push you over the edge of the waterfall. There are three small gems placed behind either pillar.
  • In the same area, there is another gem hidden on a platform directly south of the transparent elevator column. Walk off the edge to the south to drop onto it.
  • There also three more gems on large columns placed east of the island in the northern part of the map. They can jumped to from the summit. Hop onto the platform in the northeastern corner of the summit, and walk off to the northeast to drop onto the highest of three columns. From here you can hop over to the next one to the south, and then a longer jump to the third one in the east.
  • Inside the western of the two dark passages that branch off to either side from atop the waterfalls at the northern end of the map, there are three small gems placed at the very end of the path.
  • From the central hallway in the large temple structure in the eastern part of the map, where the meteors shoot over the elevated obstacle course, four small gems can be seen on small balconies in the wall to the south. The western two of the these can be reached by heading into the doorway at the end of the western arm of the central cross of hallways, go down the path to the east, and jump onto the platform in front of the lion switch; then jump over to the narrow ledge along the wall below the ivy, and jump into the tunnel at the northern end of the area.
  • From the central hallway in the large temple structure in the eastern part of the map, where the meteors shoot over the elevated obstacle course, four small gems can be seen on small balconies in the wall to the south. The first of the two eastern ones can be reached by heading into the doorway at the end of the eastern arm of the central cross of hallways, turn left, and follow down the path lined with brick walls to its end. Hop onto the pedestal at the end, jump onto to one of the ledges on either side of the path, and jump into the tunnel to the north from there.
  • In order to acquire the gem that sits in the small easternmost balcony visible from the central hallway with meteor shooting from west to east, you must first turn off the meteor spawners in the map by getting an A or S rank. Afterwards, reach the convex-shaped chamber all overgrown with ivy in the northeast of the temple, and use the green accelerator stairs at its southwestern end. The bars that blocked access to these stairs should have lowered, and you can run up the steps to be shot over the gap to small chute in the opposite wall. You will land in front of a block with the letter 'A' on it. All the meteor spawners should have been shut off at this point, allowing you to run along the thin wall to the ledge in the west in front of the deactivated spawner. Walk north into the small alcove in the wall to find a lift that can be lowered. Ride up the lift to collect the gem.

Ranking system[edit]

To unlock the exit, the player has to first enter the room marked with "Bear Witness" at the southwestern end of the temple structure in the eastern part of the map, down a winding staircase, where they will receive a rank based on how many gems they collected and whether or not they collided with any of the meteors in the map. If they collected all ten large gems and avoided all meteors, they will receive the S rank, and the message "Ascendance" will be displayed beneath. Upon leaving the bear room, all previously blocked areas in the map will become accessible, and all meteor spawners will be turned off. This will open the path to the exit in the southeastern part of the temple that leads to MAP09.
If the player did come into contact with at least one meteor, their rank will be lowered to A, with the message "Wandering.." displayed. While the areas marked with an 'A' will open up, and all meteors spawners in the map are still turned off, the southeastern part of the temple, which contains the exit to MAP09, will remain blocked off. The only way to exit the map now is found inside the room with the only official secret of the map. Pressing the satyr switch on the eastern wall of that room will end the level. Note that this is a different exit than the one afforded by achieving the S rank. This one will exit to MAP08 rather than MAP09.
If less than ten gems were collected, independent of whether or not the player collided with any of the meteors, the message "Time Up." will be displayed, and the player will be locked into the room they entered from, with all stairs lowered into the ground, giving the player no way of continuing the map, other than stepping onto the exit located in the large cross-like symbol on the ground in the middle of the room. Note that this is a different exit than the one afforded by achieving the S rank. This one will exit to MAP08 rather than MAP09.
For collecting 0-2 gems the player is given the D rank; 3-5 gems results in the C rank; and 6-9 gems will bestow the B rank. Apart from the rank displayed, the results will be the same for all three of these ranks, with the player locked into the exit room and unable to explore the rest of the map.

Secrets[edit]

Official[edit]

  1. Run through the meteor obstacle course that covers the entire length of the central hallway in the large temple structure in the eastern part of the map. At the end of it, hop into either of the two small openings, and press the switch on the western wall of the room you enter. After this, achieve an A or S rank (see above), and afterwards, head up the northern hallway from the central section of the temple, jump over the trench in the ground to the east, and ride up the small lift at the end of the short, narrow tunnel with the three small, wooden pillars in the middle to reach the convex shaped chamber overgrown with ivy that has the green accelerator steps at its southwestern end. Use these steps to jump across to the room to the south. With all the meteor spawners deactivated, follow the path through the room atop the thin walls. At the of this path, turn north, and jump to the high ledge to the east of the pond. If you get to this high ledge, you can lower the wall where the candle is to access a chamber behind the white bear room. The dead marine is on the secret sector. If the player got an A rank, the eastern wall of the room will contain the exit switch to MAP08. This switch is not present if the player achieved the S rank instead. (sector 1805)

Non-official[edit]

  • The Eternal Golden Flame can be found in three possible locations in this map.
  1. Achieve an A or S rank to gain access to the room with the switches numbered from 1 to 7, and input the correct 8-digit code (see puzzle explanation below) to open a secret chamber containing several small gems as well as one of the flame's teleport locations in its center.
  2. Reach the top of the island in the north of the map that has the meteor obstacle course run along its sides. From the summit, hop onto the small, round platform at its southeastern edge, and straferun and jump to the narrow ledge surrounding the large tower directly to the south (this jump requires SR50). Walk along this ledge to its northeastern edge, and jump to the platform due south marked with a torch. This jump, again, requires SR50. Turn northeast, and jump to the small platform atop the rocky column in the wall. Drop to the next platform directly to the east, and walk off the edge to the north to land between the rows of trees below. Follow the path until you reach a stone column that blocks your way. Press against it to lower it, run over to the row of trees to the southeast, and hop through the translucent tree texture into a similar pathway. The flame's teleport spot is at the very end of this corridor.
  3. To see whether or not the flame teleported to this spot, first head up the northern hallway from the central section of the temple in the eastern part of the map, jump over the trench in the ground to the east, and ride up the small lift at the end of the short, narrow tunnel with the three small, wooden pillars in the middle. You are now inside the convex shaped chamber all overgrown with ivy that has the green accelerator steps at its southwestern end that lead to the only official secret in the map (see above). At the eastern end of the room, right next the skull switch, is a window inside the wall that has the flame's teleport location directly on the other side; you cannot, however, collect the flame through this gap. To reach it, achieve an S rank in the map to open the bars that block the way to the southeastern section of the temple at the end of the southern and eastern arm of the large cross of hallways. Head through the doorway in the southern wall at the end of the eastern arm of the hallway, move up to the top of the stairs, and press the northern wall next to the white 'S' on the ground to open up a passage that leads to a narrow, high chamber with a white waterfall on its eastern side. To reach the ledge on the other side of the room, you will have to wallrun along the western wall and jump right after you move over the edge of the floor. Next, you have to SR50 through the narrow gap between the two walls ahead. Afterwards, position yourself between the two short plates at the end of the triangle-shaped platform, straferun forward with SR50 at a very steep angle, and then press jump to be catapulted to the northern ledge. In the next room you will have to perform several very tight jumps in sequence; should you fail to make any one of them, you will have to start over from the beginning. While the first compartment in the southern wall is easy enough to reach, the next jump after that requires you to jump all the way into the compartment in the northwestern corner of the room; this jump requires SR50 and a precise setup. There are two more jumps of similar difficulty that you have to pull off as you climb up the room. Once you reached the final compartment, drop into the stone chute at its back, and you will into the small room with the flame that you saw from the other side earlier. You can walk through the window from this side to exit.
  • There are a whole of eight 2-digit numbers hidden throughout the map that are the key to deciphering a code that can be entered inside the room with the numbered switches that becomes accessible after obtaining an A or S rank. On your way up to this room, you will see a message on the ground in an alcove informing you that there are 'eight total' you need to find.
  1. From the start, turn around, and go down the middle tunnel. Complete the meteor obstacle course, and jump outside passed the satyr switch onto the large, round platform at the eastern side of the room (see walkthrough #1). There is a small, hidden cave you have to jump to in the side of the dark rock column of the eastern wall of the area, south of the waterfall. Straferun with SR50 from the western edge of the platform towards the southeastern side of the rock column to land in the cave. Inside you'll find two small gems and a number on the ground.
  2. From the start, turn around, and go down the right-hand tunnel into eastern outside area with the beak-shaped floor. Get on top the eastern of the two cross-shaped wooden structures (see walkthrough #2). There is a small, hidden cave you can jump to in the side of the dark rock column of the eastern wall of the area, north of the waterfall. To hit it, start from the western, upper pillar of the wooden structure you are on, straferun using SR50, and jump late. Inside the cave you will find two small gems and another number on the ground.
  3. Once you reached the large temple on the eastern side of the map, go through the southern doorway from the entrance chamber into the area with the lion switch in the west and brick wall building in the east. Complete the steps to grab the silver gem in its high-up cage (see walkthrough #5), and a wall next to the southernmost waterfall in this area will open up to reveal a small cave with two small gems and the next number in it.
  4. Follow the steps to reach gem #9 (see walkthrough), and you will be inside a room with four wooden pillars at its corners. Press against the window in the western wall, and a small holes on the side of each pillar will open, showing the roman numerals I, II, III & IV. Press against them in sequence from one to four in quick succession and the southern wall of the room will lower to reveal a short tunnel with two small gems and a number in it.
  5. In the large temple structure in the eastern part of the map, step onto the wooden staircase that you use to reach the meteor obstacle course north of the central hallway. From the top step, straferun and jump to the ledge right next to the big ivy column directly south of the stairs. Drop down behind it, and follow the path until you reach a small chamber with two wooden frames and a candle between them. Stand between the two frames, and straferun/jump to the small waterfall in the southwest corner of the room. Turn around, and jump over to the ledge with the candle in front of another waterfall, and a wall right next to it will slide down and reveal two small gems and the next number. Press the wall between the two wooden frames to exit this area.
  6. Run through the meteor obstacle course that covers the entire length of the central hallway in the large temple structure in the eastern part of the map. At the end of it, hop into either of the two small openings, and press the switch on the western wall of the room you enter. After this, obtain an A or S rank (see above), and afterwards, head up the northern hallway from the central section of the temple, jump over the trench in the ground to the east, and ride up the small lift at the end of the short, narrow tunnel with the three small, wooden pillars in the middle to reach the convex shaped chamber overgrown with ivy that has the green accelerator steps at its southwestern end. The bars that blocked access to these stairs should have lowered, and you can run up the steps and jump to be shot over the gap to small chute in the opposite wall. You will land in front of a block with the letter 'A' on it. All the meteor spawners should have been shut off at this point, allowing you to run along the thin wall to the ledge in the west in front of the deactivated spawner. Walk north into the small alcove in the wall to find a lift that can be lowered. Press on the patch of ivy in the wall behind it to reveal a small cave with two small gems and another one of the numbers on the ground.
  7. Achieve an A or S rank, return to the starting area, and go through the middle tunnel. Once you enter the room which has the now deactivated meteor obstacle course, turn left to find a white waterfall with the letter A in front of it. A door in the wall next to it has opened to reveal a cave which has the messages "play me a song..." and "you know the one..." written on the ground. The wall behind the second message can be pressed to open a compartment with the next number and three small gems in it as well as two further compartments in the room with two more gems each.
  8. Achieve an A or S rank, and afterwards, head up the island in the northern part of the map that had all the meteors shooting along its sides in pairs of two. Move to the end of the second lane, and jump to the large, round platform at the northwestern corner of the structure. From here, jump over to the small altar below with the 'A' in front of it to the northwest. Jump onto the platform and from here onto the white waterfall. Jump up further up the waterfall, and run into the dark, eastern passage. At its end you'll find a number on a low pedestal.
The hint to the solution of the puzzle is in the symbol of two eighth notes displayed before each number. The player is supposed to make the connection that the solution has something to do with music and more specifically the MIDI "oct17_re.mid" that is playing in the map itself. Upon opening the MIDI in an editor, you will find that one of the instrument tracks (glockenspiel) is named 'what's the mystery', strongly hinting that the information necessary to decipher the code is contained in here. The track has 101 measures, making it possible to associate every 2-digit number you find in the map with one measure of the song. Switching to a musical score view of the piece will reveal that each of the measures in question has only one note being played in it. These eight notes correspond to either the E Major or C# minor scale, but since the number that points to the measure that has the C# in it, unlike all the other numbers, was positioned on a special pedestal in the map, this hints that the C# is the root note and the C# minor scale is implied here. Numbering the degrees of the scale from one to seven allows you to translate the 2-digit numbers in the map into single-digit numbers ranging from 1 to 7 that can then be input in the switch room using the numbered buttons. In order to obtain the correct code, the numbers you found in the level have to be translated from smallest to largest. Input the resulting 8-digit code, and press 'open' at the end to lower the walls and gain access to the hidden chamber beyond.
  • Run through the meteor obstacle course that covers the entire length of the central hallway in the large temple structure in the eastern part of the map. At the end of it, hop into either of the two small openings, and walk around the large wooden structure in the dark chamber beyond. At the eastern edge of the room, press against the wall behind the candle on the side of the structure to reveal a hidden chamber with several small gems inside it.
  • Reach the end of the meteor obstacle course in the starting area, and press the satyr switch. This will open a cave at the southwest corner of the room. Go inside this room (it is important that you actually step inside the room). A message on the ground reads "have you seen my painting?". Once you reach the large temple structure on the eastern side of the map, move into the northern arm of the central hallway, and drop into the trench in the ground to the east. Walk north into the small hedge maze, and press against the little painting on the western wall to "pick it up". Return the painting to the cave in the starting area, and place it on the wooden frame. This will open another cave opposite from the one you are in. Inside you will find an assortment of small gems.
