Letters in italics refer to marked spots on the map. Sector, thing, and linedef numbers in boldface are secrets which count toward the end-of-level tally.

Essentials[edit]

In this level you need to collect the fire, earth and water artifacts and place them in the pedestals in the starting area. Doing so will lower a pillar holding a Wings of Wrath south of the starting point, allowing you to fly through the air region to reach the true exit. All of the weapons for every player class can be found in the central area.

If you wish to end the level early, go to the structure north of the starting point and press the moon switch at its north end to open the bronze gates south of the starting point, revealing another exit portal to MAP02: Serpent Temple.

Fire region[edit]

Clear out the green chaos serpents, afrits, centaurs and brown chaos serpents in the central area then go through the lava at the north-east end to enter a large cave. Two death wyverns will awaken when you enter the cave, and a number of reivers will rise from the floor behind you to block your escape. You need to jump across the islands and glitter bridges to reach the large building in the middle of the cave; fewer bridges are provided on medium and hard skill levels, and you will need to contend with slaughtaurs and more reivers as you land on each island. Once you reach the building, activate an Icon of the Defender if you have one then climb up the spiral lava staircase in the center to find a demon idol at the top. Taking the idol will cause the lava below you to fall away, so you will need to carefully jump down to the rock islands below to get out. Return to the central area and place the idol in the red vine-like pedestal on the east side to activate it.

Water region[edit]

Go south-west from the central area to enter a region full of water. Your objective is to reach the building at the south-west end of this region; there are multiple routes you can take to get there, but any route will involve pushing past a number of stalker bosses, wendigos and slaughtaurs, and some routes will trigger ambushes by more wendigos and stalkers. Once you reach the south-west building, jump up the rocks and walls to reach the top, destroy any waiting wendigos then push the demon switch to lower the ice block holding the dragon idol. Take the idol back to the central area and use it on the blue vine-like structure under the brazier on the west side to activate it.

Earth region[edit]

Go north-west from the central area to a junction with tree mosaics, then take the north path and go in that direction until you reach a gray wall. Step over the wall to land on the gray path below, then follow this west until you reach a circular chamber with a demon switch in the center and three large wooden doors. Pressing the switch will cause a group of dark bishops to appear behind you; after 30 seconds, the doors will then open to reveal a group of centaurs. Go through the western door and go straight forward to a staircase covered in vines and roots, which you can follow up to the top to find the skull idol. Take the idol back to the starting point and use it on the green vine-like pedestal in the middle of the central area to activate it. Activating the earth pedestal will release a heresiarch into the central area along with many afrits, serpents, wendigos and bishops, but you will be given lots of combined mana to fight them off.

Air region[edit]

Once you have placed all three idols in their pedestals, you will be notified that the Wings of Wrath have lowered; go to the south end of the central area to pick them up. Activate the wings and fly into the south-east region, which is a massive shaft guarded by afrits, serpents and bishops. Fly to the top of the shaft to a platform with a Krater of Might and a mystic urn then continue south-east through a couple more rooms to enter a cave with gold star mosaics where you will find an Icon of the Defender and a Chaos Device. Drop to the ground and run south-east to find a portal leading back to the Serpent Temple.

Secrets[edit]

Official[edit]

There are no official secrets on this map.

Non-official[edit]

  • The large room in the northern part of the water region contains a number of glitter bridges, though fewer bridges will appear on medium and hard skill levels. If you carefully jump up the bridges, or use the Wings of Wrath, you will reach a death mask at the very top of the room. Now use the Wings to fly into the long tunnel at the south side of the water region, where you will find an afrit guarding the entrance to a small cavern. Use the death mask in the slot at the back of the room to get dragonskin bracers, a Krater of Might, a mystic urn, and two Icons of the Defender.
