MAP08: Bushwhacked is the eighth map of Valiant. It was designed by Paul DeBruyne (skillsaw) and uses the music track "Astral Dreadnought," originally composed by James Paddock (Jimmy) for Plutonia 2. The par time is 5:00.

Essentials[edit]

Start moving as soon as the level starts, as there will be super imps around you, along with mancubi on Hurt Me Plenty (HMP) skill level or higher. Head forward to a megasphere (or armor on Ultra-Violence (UV) and Nightmare (NM)) then walk past a couple of zombiemen to a damaging blood pit overlooked by more zombiemen along with one or more mancubi (plus arachnotrons on UV and NM). Run up the steps leading around the edge of the pit until you reach the top and find a shotgun, then run north to land on a platform in the center of the pit holding the blue skull key. Drop into the blood then run south to a tunnel which leads to a cavern containing shotgun guys, then continue east through some more blood to a teleporter leading back to the starting point.

Head north to a blue key door and open it, take the megaarmor and supercharge on the other side (plus a rocket launcher on HMP or lower), then carefully follow the narrow ledge in front of you as it winds north and east towards a platform holding the yellow skull key; as you proceed, you will need to dodge fireballs from overhead mancubi but also kill some shotgun guys (or chaingunners on UV and NM) that are shooting at you from nearby platforms. If you fall off the ledge, head south-east through the blood towards the yellow key platform to find a teleporter behind it leading back to the start. Once you reach the yellow key, enter a second teleporter right behind it to return to the starting point.

Head east to a yellow key door and open it to confront some imps and/or mancubi (there will also be a megasphere on I'm Too Young To Die (ITYTD) and Hey Not Too Rough (HNTR)), then proceed south to a gargoyle switch - before pressing it, you should dispose of an arch-vile and some super spectres that are released behind you. Press the switch to lower a lift to the north-east, then ride it up to the ledge overlooking the yellow key area; follow this ledge round, killing the imps (or chaingunners on UV and NM) that appear on the platforms to your left, then take the supercharge at the end of the path before stepping into the teleporter behind it. You will find yourself on the ledge above the blue key area - head north through a tunnel with a plasma gun then continue following the path west and south past the enemies you dodged earlier. Enter the teleporter at the end of the path, then press the gargoyle switch to find yourself in a cavern with the red skull key.

From the red key, you can drop down to the teleporter you used to leave the blue key area earlier. Head south through a red key door then go into a room with a rectangular blood pit surrounded by a walkway. Head to the south side of the walkway, collecting a megasphere (or supercharge on HMP or higher) on the way, to find a super shotgun then press the skull switch here to raise a lift behind you; the switch will also release some arachnorbs and pain elementals, along with revenants that will teleport under a crusher. Press a gargoyle switch next to the lift to lower it, then ride it up and time a run past the three crushers to return to the north side of the blood pit. You will see a door open on your right as you clear the third crusher - kill the chaingunners waiting behind it then step on the red X they were guarding to finish the level.

Other points of interest[edit]

Drop into the blood on the north side of the yellow key area, then climb the steps here to find a super chaingun. (On ITYTD and HNTR, this weapon is placed in front of you at the start of the level.)

Secrets[edit]

  1. After going through the red key door, press the misaligned east wall and ride a lift up to 12 rockets. (sector 584)

Bugs[edit]

Two super imps (Things 568 and 569) have no flags set for any of the three difficulty classes, so they do not actually appear in the level.
