Walkthrough[edit]
Essentials[edit]
Follow the steps down to a square room with shotgun guys, then open the door in the south-west corner to find more monsters guarding a skull switch. Press the switch to open the cage behind you and release an eye switch, which will open the door ahead, then take the chaingun at the end of the passage and press the switch here to go down to a canyon. Go through the metal arch in front of you then go north-east to a super shotgun in front of a gargoyle switch and press it to lower the rocks on the east and south sides of the canyon. Climb the steps behind the southern set of rocks and follow the ledge to an eye switch, which will open an archway just below it, then go through and climb up the steps on the west side of the next area. Run south to land on a machine just below, where some shocktroopers are guarding a rocket launcher, then press the button here to raise a bridge from the magma below and follow it to more steps that lead up to a second eye switch. Press the switch to open another archway to the north, revealing two more shocktroopers, then pass through it and go north-east to a marble structure with a berserk pack which is defended by vassagos. Step off the east side of the structure to drop down to another eye switch and press it to open the pipes on the ledge above, then run south-east to a teleporter that goes back to the floor above and pass through the pipes you just opened to get the blue skull key.
Go to the marble balcony in front of you and enter the magma trenches on either side of it, then open the blue skull bars here and continue east to a gargoyle switch, which will open the windows ahead to reveal a "core" guarded by shocktroopers and arachnotrons. Take the nearby radiation shielding suit then step through the windows, drop into the magma below and go to the east side where a Hell knight guards another switch, which will raise a platform in the north-west corner. Enter any of the teleporters to get back to the first gargoyle switch, then step across the platform you just raised to a walkway and take the incinerator here before heading north to a large marble room. Press the eye switch at the south end of the room to open a closet at the north end containing one or two shocktroopers (plus an arch-vile on Hurt Me Plenty skill level or higher), then press a skull switch inside that closet to lower the bars blocking the western door. Go through the door and follow the steps up until you reach the top, kill a waiting arachnotron then go north into a room with caged shotgun guys and shocktroopers. Flip both switches at the north end of the room to raise a bridge over the magma, allowing you to get the red skull key on the other side.
Leave the room and head south to some red bars, open them to return to the structure where you found the berserk pack, then continue south through a red door to find a supercharge. Head south and south-east through the canyon to another red door and open it to face some zombies, then go east and north to a doorway flanked by red torches and go through it to enter a tunnel. Press the button at the east end of the tunnel, then go back outside and go east to some metal stairs which are now defended by mindweavers and shotgun guys (plus an arch-vile on Ultra-Violence (UV) and Nightmare (NM)). Climb the stairs and go north to a hole, drop down it to land on the walkway east of the core room then go round to the north end to press a skull switch that will raise a second platform next to the core. Enter the teleporter behind you to go back to the ledge west of the core, then step across the south-east platform you just raised to reach the core. Press the skull switch here to lower a lift, ride it up then run straight forward past an arachnotron to reach the yellow skull key.
From the yellow key, head back towards the starting point and use the moving platform here to get back to the square room. Open the yellow door on the west side and press the fake exit switch behind it, kill the imps that ambush you then go to the center of the next room to open two closets containing vassagos. There are three buttons inside the closets; the first two buttons open the closets further to reveal more monsters, while the third button opens the bars blocking the exit teleporter.
Other points of interest[edit]
Secrets[edit]
- After lowering the first sets of rocks in the canyon, go to the red door in the south-east corner but do not pass through it. Instead, head north past a pentagram to a rock wall with a mismatched texture and open it to find an incinerator and two fuel cans. (sector 1011)
- When you reach the eye switch above the magma pit at the south end of the map, look north-east to see a small button on a pillar in the distance. Shoot the button to lower a wall behind you, then follow the path west to a megasphere. (sector 172)
- At the marble structure at the north end of the map, drop into the magma on the west side then run to the steps at the north end to find a megaarmor, a backpack (only on I'm Too Young To Die and Hey Not Too Rough) and four boxes of rockets (two on UV and NM). (sector 393)
- Go through the red door to the south-east area of the map, then go south-east to a hole in the wall with rounded edges. Step through this wall, then turn round and go back to the red door where an alcove containing an armor and a computer area map has opened. (sector 1000)
