MAP10: Surrounded is the tenth map of Plutonia 1024: The Plutinya Experiment. It was designed by Miguel Suarez Gomez (Z0k), and the par time defined in MAPINFO is 1:30.

As the level starts, go left to get a super shotgun (which will release a chaingunner) then go up the steps east of the star and turn left and left again to find a switch and an armor. Kill an imp and lost soul (or two imps on Hurt Me Plenty (HMP) skill level or higher) that are released behind you before flipping the switch, which will open some bars blocking the east doorway, then go through and kill an imp (or revenant on HMP or higher) that appears in front of you before continuing east to the next chamber. Walk north through a metal archway, which will cause a chaingunner to appear in front of you and release a shotgun guy behind you (or Hell knight and chaingunner respectively on HMP or higher), then approach the lift at the back of the room to lower it and get the blue keycard.

Go back to the room with the sludge pools and walk north into the neighboring chamber, then flip the switch on the east wall to open the nearby blue bars and open access to another lift - this will also release an imp (or chaingunner on HMP or higher) behind you. Activate the lift and ride it up to find a chaingunner guarding a plasma gun and the yellow keycard, then use your new weapon to kill the enemies ahead, including one or more mancubi that appear from nowhere. Drop down to ground level and head west to find a rocket launcher, then go up the step to another switch that will open some yellow bars on the east side of the map. This will cause cacodemons and lost souls to emerge from a structure to the north, as well as allowing more enemies to teleport to the area around you.

Go back to the lift that had the blue key on it and ride this up, then head north towards a switch - as you approach it a wall will rise and close off the exit teleporter, and a compartment containing a knight (or arch-vile on Ultra-Violence and Nightmare) will open. The monster will repeatedly teleport between the compartment and the lift, so kill it quickly then flip the switch to open the exit teleporter again.

Other points of interest[edit]


  1. Take the steps east of the start, then head north-west and flip the switch. Before heading east, shoot the gargoyle face to the west. Go to the room to the east and there will be a supercharge to your right. (sector 82)
  2. Head east from secret #1 to a room with two terminals. Use the right (south) one with a flickering light, then head north and into the north-east corner to get a megaarmor. (sector 216)
