MAP12: Gothik Gauntlet is the twelfth map of Hacx. It was designed by Rich Johnston (Nostromo).

Essentials[edit]

Through the buildings[edit]

You start in a courtyard overlooked by thugs and androids. Head straight forward to a switch and flip it to lower a lift behind you, then run back to that lift before it rises again - the windows in the building ahead will open to reveal more androids. Go to the north-west corner of the ledge to find a misaligned wall and lower it, then head down some steps and open a door to find a thug and phage guarding a button. Press the button to lower another lift and ride it up to a walkway, flip another switch in the south-east corner then retrace your steps to the ledge on the west side of the courtyard - a door has opened in the south-west corner allowing you to enter the neighboring building. Walk north towards a computer screen depicting a buzzer, which will open to reveal a terminatrix (one or two thugs will also be released behind you), then climb on the step around the terminatrix's compartment and run through the west window to land on a rooftop.

On this rooftop is a small panel that requires the password to open - remember this for later. Step through the gap in the north-west corner of the surrounding railing to get on a narrow ledge, which you must carefully follow round to the west side of the next building where you will find a door leading inside. Dispose of the thugs and phages waiting inside then go up the curvy steps to a red hallway, then walk west and north to find a door leading to a trash chute; drop down it and climb out of the dumpster, kill some waiting thugs then look in the south-west corner of the garage to find two switches next to an elevator. Flip both switches to open the elevator and get on it, but do not activate the elevator yet as a compartment will open nearby, revealing a phage as well as another switch. Flip this switch then go back to the elevator (you will need to open it again), then press the up button inside the elevator to go up to a room with two water filters. Destroy the androids inside the filters, then go round to the south-east corner to find a doorway leading inside; now run west through both filters and through a window to land on the next rooftop.

A monstruct is waiting on a ledge ahead, and as you land on the rooftop some androids will appear on the raised sections on either side. Run west off the rooftop to land on a metal platform underneath the monstruct, then climb up the steps to its ledge where a door has opened on the south side to reveal a small office. Press a tiny red button hidden on the desk drawers to open the next door, then go through and turn left to get on to a covered bridge with some thugs. Cross the bridge to enter a black-walled building, then follow the silver floor past some more thugs until you get to a dead end with a switch. Pull it then retrace your steps to find that the east wall of the building has lowered to reveal a phage (or monstruct on "Let's rip them apart!" (LRTA) skill level or higher) on a nearby ledge, then run across to this ledge and head up some steps to a button protected by androids. Press the button then go back inside the building, where some steps have formed that lead to a green platform - step on this platform and wait for it to lower you to ground level, then enter the passage that appears in front of you to get outside.

KeyCard plaza[edit]

Dispose of the thugs, androids and monstruct (or terminatrixes on LRTA or higher) waiting ahead, then head west to some tan steps that lead down to a lawn. Open a door in the north-east corner of the lawn and follow the corridor west past some androids until you get to a dead end, then turn round to see a button on the wall; this will open a compartment behind you containing a phage and a second button, which will open the south wall. Go through and enter the doorway on your right to enter a small lab, press the button opposite the GenEmp logo then head back to the tan steps and climb them to get back to the road. Head north and west to a bridge (which was opened by the last button), fight off a monstruct and terminatrix then cross the bridge and follow the road until you encounter a group of enemies, including one or two thorn things, guarding an octagonal plaza.

Enter the plaza and head for its north-east side to find a door (approaching the large archway in the center will open its columns to reveal two monstructs), go through it to a room with flashing lights and activate the lift on the east side to go up to a ledge with a button. Press the button to open a door below you, go through it and follow the corridor to another door that leads to an elevator with an android. Press the up button inside the elevator to reach another door and go through it to get to a rooftop which has some narrow ledges over vents - carefully walk along these ledges (the vents are highly damaging if you land on them) until you get to some steps and run straight up them to land on a platform below, then continue running up some square platforms over lava to get to a walkway with some androids. Go to the north-east corner of this walkway to get the KeyCard.

Password and exit[edit]

Taking the KeyCard will open a compartment in the south wall containing a phage. Enter this compartment and press the computer panel to lower the floor beneath you, going down to a room with lava trenches guarded by thugs and one or two terminatrixes. Open the door in the south-east corner to get back to the plaza, then head back across the bridge and proceed east to find yourself under the covered bridge you crossed earlier - there is a button in the north wall that will lower parts of this bridge, allowing you to step past it. Follow the road east past a theatre, which will open to reveal a monstruct and terminatrix, until you get to a large fountain, then go to the middle of the fountain and press the west wall to lower it so you can reach a switch. Pull the switch then head back the way you came to a stone building with Hacx signs, then go through the now-open front door to enter its lobby. Enter the office behind the reception desk and press the button hidden on the drawers to open a nearby painting, revealing a secret door that requires the KeyCard - open it to find a dark hallway leading to the password.

Go back to the lobby then look north of the reception desk to find a door leading to an elevator; step inside the elevator and press the up button, then open the door at the top to find yourself back in the red hallway. Return to the neighboring room with the curvy steps, then run through the open door on the east side to get back to the rooftop with the panel requiring the password. Carefully step around the railing to get back to that panel and press it to open the neighboring door, slay a couple of waiting thugs then go up the steps behind the door and run through the south window to land on a ledge next to some bars. Follow the ledge west to a damaged set of bars and shoot some nitro canisters behind it, then step through and go west through another doorway to find some narrow steps leading down to a switch. Pull the switch then go back through the damaged bars and walk along the ledge again, where a wall has lowered revealing a gray path.

Follow the gray path south and east until you get to a door, open it then head down some steps to a phage guarding a lift. Press the button next to the lift to lower it and go up to a ledge overlooking the starting courtyard, then step east on to another lift that leads down to a small garden protected by one or more monstructs. Head south-east until you get to an open manhole and drop down it to a dark sewer, then follow the passage east and north past some waiting androids until you drop into a room with a monstruct. Push the button in the north-west corner then head up the nearby steps and follow another tunnel to find that the water level has lowered, revealing a new passage leading to a room with several items including a cenotrophexine and a super kevlar vest. Go through a broken grate in the north wall to enter a large chamber with monstructs, terminatrixes and a thorn thing, press the button on the east wall then walk through the south-east waterfall to find the exit.

Other points of interest[edit]

Entering the KeyCard plaza will lower several walls with enemies behind them. Head into the south-west compartment to find a force field in a dead end.

Secrets[edit]

  1. Enter the red carpet area and open either door to the south. Open the inner wall between the rooms to find a valise. (sector 636)
  2. Head west and north from the previous secret and use the north wall to access the trash chute. Drop in and get the 007Microtel to the west. (sector 834)
  3. At the south-west part of the map, use the south-east wall and take the series of lifts to get a case of rounds, a case of cartridges and a cenotrophexine. (sector 750)
  4. In the plaza at the north-west end, head south-west through the alley and head west. Before the next bend, use the north wall and ride it up to a case of rounds and a case of cartridges. The switch at the end will lower the left of the two central pillars with a body armor. Stepping on it will lower the other one with a case of torpedoes. (sector 796)
  5. On the rooftop with fans, navigate to the west side on the lower end to lower the corner wall to the south. You will find a case of rounds, a case of cartridges and a molecule tank. (sector 385)
  6. In the exit area, walk through the central waterfall to get a force field. (sector 855)
