Essentials[edit]

Press the gargoyle switch in front of you to be lowered into a small area containing zombiemen, Hell knights and/or barons of Hell as well as a chaingunner and shotgun guy - use the plasma gun by the north-west wall to kill them quickly. Drop down the hole in the north wall to a blood river and head forward until you see a doorway on your right containing a chaingunner, then go through it and follow the passage past a revenant to a set of steps; go up and turn left at the top to find a skull switch that will open a door behind you. Drop back into the blood river and head west through the now-open door to confront some zombiemen; the blue skull key is in an alcove in the west wall, but taking it will lower a wall behind you revealing a cyberdemon.

Avoid the cyberdemon and go to the south-west corner of the room to find a low passage with one or two mancubi; inside this passage is a skull switch that will open the nearby door leading out of the room, revealing an arch-vile along with shotgun guys and demons. Go through the door and press the skull switch on the west wall between the candelabras to lower a lift behind you with two demons, then ride the lift up and open the blue key door at the top to return to the starting area. Look behind the column by the south wall to find a gargoyle switch requiring the blue key, which will open the large east door as well as a window behind you revealing one or two mancubi and chaingunners.

Kill the demons as they come through the now-open door then go through it and head south-west towards the mancubi; there is a skull switch behind them that will open a door to the east inside a marble brick structure, which is guarded by imps and knights and/or barons. Head through the door and kill one or two revenants on your right then head east past some imps and demons to a large area with two wooden pens and a bridge between them. There is a gargoyle switch in the middle of the bridge - pressing it will lower the pens to reveal a cyberdemon and a spiderdemon, along with a wall to the east hiding a revenant and one or two barons. Get the spiderdemon and cyberdemon to infight, and once the cyberdemon is dead step across to its platform to collect the yellow skull key.

Go back to the bridge and head west through a wide doorway, then go round the metal wall in front of you to find a gargoyle switch protected by another baron. Press the switch then head north where you will see a metal wall lowering; kill the barons that teleport in while you wait for the wall to lower, then open the yellow key door behind it and go up some steps past a pain elemental to a white ledge. Run west so you drop into the octagon below then drop into the hole in the middle of the octagon to finish the level.

Other points of interest[edit]

The level's only pickup which counts towards the item percentage, a berserk pack, can be found on the spiderdemon's platform.

Secrets[edit]

  1. Open the south door leading out of the blue key area and step on the platform with the candles and blood pool. Now use the switch to the west, take the lift up, and open the blue key door to return to the start. Fall down the north hole again, and this time you will see a block has raised up. Take the east passage up and around and use that block to cross to the west, where you can get a box of bullets and energy cell packs. (sector 44)

Inspiration and development[edit]

The level's name is taken from Doom II's MAP20: Gotcha!. The fight between the cyberdemon and spiderdemon is also inspired by that level.
