MAP15: Romero get into the icon of sin is the fifteenth map of Blitz: Race Against Time. It was designed by Volter Voltage and uses the music track "Shiro Sagisu - Magmadiver" from Neon Genesis Evangelion. The par time defined in ZMAPINFO is 30 seconds.

The level takes place in an underground complex with multiple possible ways of progression.

Essentials[edit]

From the start, enter the teleporter directly ahead to reach a section filled with barrels and a rocket launcher. Step back and aim at the white light texture to trigger an explosion via blast damage, clearing the area. Proceed left down the corridor, pick up the shotgun, and enter a room with three imps and several barrels. You must detonate the barrels to raise two platforms without them, the player cannot proceed, as the damaging floor will kill instantly. Continue along the corridor until reaching a large open area. Here, pick up a chaingun, a backpack, and two boxes of bullets.

This area serves as a hub for finding the red keycard, with three distinct paths available.

Path #1:

Head left and drop down, then move into the ventilation shaft on the left. This leads to a room containing the red skull key. After collecting it, drop down and proceed to the eastern section of the level, where both a 30-second door and a red key door are located. Open the red door and ride the lift up to a final door, which ends the level.

Path #2:

After collecting the chaingun, proceed toward the southern section of the level. Health bonuses help guide the way. The red keycard is located in a room with a yellow platform. After collecting it, make your way to the eastern side of the level, where the red key door is located.

Path #3:

Go left and drop to the lowest level of the map, then head east. Once you spot a group of crates, turn left to enter an ammo storage area. Inside you will find a super shotgun, green armor, a plasma rifle, and the red keycard.

Other points of interest[edit]

After entering the teleporter at the start, turn right and follow the path to a dead end. There is a hidden door here that leads to the southern section of the level, corresponding to path #2.

After completing the platforming section above the deadly nukage and killing the demon, a long corridor becomes visible. Near two imps, there is a north room containing a medikit and two boxes of rockets.

After obtaining the red keycard via path #2, do not drop down to open the nearby red door. Instead, walk along the ledge heading east and turn right. You will find a lift that takes you to a liminal section of the level. Follow the corridor until you reach a large room with a staircase. Ascend to the second floor and continue moving south. Upon reaching a dead end, drop down to the east. Eventually, you will come across a door that leads into a wooden room. Exiting the wooden room places you in an empty, void-like space. Continue heading east through this surreal environment until you reach a distorted or older version of the level. The exit is located there.

Trivia[edit]

  • This level is a reference to the mecha anime Neon Genesis Evangelion, which the setting is an underground repair complex where the Evangelions are serviced.
  • The title Romero get into the icon of sin references a popular internet meme derived from Neon Genesis Evangelion, where the protagonist Shinji Ikari is urged to pilot Evangelion Unit-01 to combat the angels. The enterpic screen for this level, which features Romero's head and two Hell nobles, also references the aforementioned internet meme.
  • The main room featuring the flying ship contains non-damaging nukage and lava sectors, which represent cooling liquid, similar to that seen in Neon Genesis Evangelion.
