MAP16: Panopticon is the secret map in the Counterfeit Eden episode of Legacy of Rust. It is accessed from MAP10: Dis Union and leads back to MAP11: Echoes of Pain. It was designed by Xaser Acheron and uses the music track "Hell Force Five," also by Xaser.

Walkthrough[edit]

Essentials[edit]

Throughout this level you will need to avoid rockets from the cyberdemon standing on the center platform. No ammo is provided until the end of the level, so you may need the cyberdemon to kill other monsters for you.

Flip the switch in front of you to raise the floor and reveal the cyberdemon, then run backwards until you collect a megasphere and hear a closet open behind you containing two Hell knights and another switch. Flip the switch to open a hole in the west wall along with a cage containing revenants, then go through and climb the steps to another switch that will open three more cages. Continue north through some damaging blood pools, using the nearby switches to open the doors, then run down three square platforms to reach a large lift. Ride the lift up to a room with six knights, kill them all then step on the red lights they were guarding to open the doors at the north end. Once all the doors are open, flip the switch behind them to open another door behind you, then go through it to enter a blood maze.

Press the five lion switches in the blood maze to open the doors at the east end so you can escape, then drop down a hole and follow the path to a room with four caged arch-viles. There are two buttons at the west end of the room that need to be pressed, but you must wait a few seconds for the floor in each alcove to rise and let you out; the arch-viles will be able to attack you during this time, so get the cyberdemon to kill them first. When both buttons have been pressed, climb the southern steps (which are highly damaging) to a narrow bridge and walk along it to reach a pentagram containing a calamity blade and five fuel tanks. Collect the nearby invulnerability to raise a bridge to the cyberdemon's platform, kill the monster using your new weapon to lower the platform, then enter the white teleporter hidden under the column to end the level.

Other points of interest[edit]

Reaching the pentagram activates crushers above the revenant and arch-vile cages, so you do not need to kill them yourself.

Secrets[edit]

  1. At the end of the blood maze, go south at the final junction to enter a cage with a megasphere. (sector 127)

Bugs[edit]

If the blood maze is cleared too quickly, the platform holding the cyberdemon will not lower until the maze is completed again.
