MAP16: Protean Cybex is the seventeeth map of Hacx. It was designed by Marc Pullen.

Letters in italics refer to marked spots on the map. Sector, thing, and linedef numbers in boldface are secrets which count toward the end-of-level tally.


You begin in the center of this symmetrical map. Be aware of your surroundings at all times in this map - the outer hallways are populated by (depending on skill level) thugs, androids or phages that will advance as soon as you start shooting. Additionally, on "Let's rip them apart!" there will be two terminatrixes to your left and right, and on "I am immortal" there will be four roaming mines behind the columns around you.

There are four square chambers in the corners of the map, each containing a monstruct and a switch that needs to be pulled in the correct order. Visit the south-west chamber followed by the north-east, south-east and north-west chambers and pull the switches, then go back to the center where the exit button has appeared.

  1. The sector you start in is a secret and is impossible to miss. (sector 86)


Because switches can be activated even if the player is above or below them, the level can be finished immediately by turning around and pressing the space where the exit switch will appear.
