MAP16: Red Mist Apparitions is the sixteenth map of Ethereal Breakdown. It was designed by United VirusX and uses the music track "".

Walkthrough[edit]
Essentials[edit]
This map contains two different paths, one of which is initially accessible on the Be Gentle!, Bring it on! and I own Doom! skill levels, while the other can only be accessed on the Watch me die! and Nightmare! skill levels.
Other points of interest[edit]
On the first path, get to the end of the level and then shoot the pillars where the Artifact of Body and Artifact of Mind are, then backtrack to where you picked up the red skull key to find the artifact in its place.
On the second path, upon clearing the final fight, shoot the two Artifacts and backtrack to the teleporter and you will be taken to the start of the level, where you will now be able to reach the arena from the first path of the level, now filled with harder enemies. Once you beat this arena you will be able to acquire the Artifact and be teleported back to the exit area.
Secrets[edit]
- First path: In the southeastern arena of the map, go to the left to spot a wall between two red torches: press it to reveal a plasma gun and two energy cells. The plasma gun only appears on the Be Gentle!, Bring it on! and I own Doom! skill levels. (thing 1243)
- First path: After getting the red skull key and teleporting out, in this new area, head all the way east until you see a teleporter. Right before that, there is a pool on blood on the floor to your left: press the wall behind it to reveal a megasphere. (thing 1347)
- Second path: After getting into the teleporter, the central, circular structure can be opened from two sides to reveal two rockets and a rocket launcher. (thing 1)
- Second path: After clearing the first arena, enter the door that opens and you will see two windows overlooking red fog. Shoot at the center of the left window, in the distance, to activate a switch that makes a backpack (thing 263) and a soulsphere (thing 270) appear in the room.
- Second path: Go up the next room, and fight your way through the arena battle that ensues. In order to obtain the next secret, you need to head east and defeat another arena fight with multiple waves. Doing so will make the yellow skull key appear in the central room. Now, head west and do the same, and once you are in the room that has the red skull key, you will notice that the first switch you see upon entering the room has another switch to its backside. Press that one to lower a pillar in the central room containing a BFG9000. (thing 91)

Bugs[edit]
A supercharge (Thing 1593) has no flags set for any of the three difficulty classes, so it does not actually appear in the level. It is placed in the same spot as the plasma gun from secret #1, meaning it was supposed to appear on the Watch me die! and Nightmare! skill levels.
