Walkthrough[edit]
Essentials[edit]
You begin in the north-east corner of the map, inside a large water trench. You need to go to the west and south ends of the trench, passing spectres (and arachnotrons on Hurt Me Plenty (HMP) skill level or higher), to reach two gargoyle switches that will lower the blue skull key near the starting point. After taking the key, climb up either set of steps on either side of it, then follow the path south and west until you reach a wooden door, then press the switch behind the door to lower a wooden barrier behind you. Step past the barrier, then continue to the south-west corner of the fortress to find a doorway guarded by imps and lost souls (plus cacodemons and mancubi on HMP or higher).
Go through the doorway to see a cross-shaped staircase with an armor, destroy the lost souls that appear, then approach the door at the north-east end to open two switches on the east and west sides of the room which will open that door. Pass through the door to see Hell knights and/or barons of Hell defending a supercharge (taking it causes cacodemons to appear), then go down either staircase at the north and east ends to pass through another door. Kill some waiting shotgun guys, use the wooden lift to reach the floor above, then continue north or east through another door to face a group of lost souls. Press the skull switch in the south-west corner to lower the exit teleporter behind you.
Other points of interest[edit]
At the north-west and south-east ends of the fortress are pillars holding a super shotgun and rocket launcher. When you approach either pillar a lift will lower behind you, which you can ride up to an eye switch that will lower the pillar when shot.
Secrets[edit]
- At the west side of the fortress, a marble wall has a satyr face and a lion face on it. Use the lion face, then head to the moat surrounding the fortress and go counter-clockwise to an open passage. Use the lift to go up to an energy cell pack and a BFG9000. (sector 124)
