MAP20: The Pale Helm is the twentieth map of 1000 Lines 2 - Community Project. It was designed by RonnieJamesDiner and uses the music track "The Revolution Continues," originally created by Tristan Clark for TNT: Revilution (this track is also used on the intermission screens).

Essentials[edit]

Yellow key[edit]

Walk straight forward until you reach a chaingun then press the gray skull button in front of you, which will lower the southern blue walls to reveal several zombiemen and a shotgun guy. Head past these walls and run south-east to drop into a hole containing a super shotgun and another gray skull button - this button will raise the floor and allow you to escape, but it will also cause a spiderdemon to appear on the large ice platform to the west. Run back to the starting area and kill any demons that get in your way, then go through the north walls that have opened to collect a berserk pack being guarded by zombiemen and Hell knights. Follow the path west and south past some barrels until you reach a patch of ice, which will lower as you walk across it and drop you into an area with one to three mancubi.

Head north until you reach some steps with a pack of imps on them, go up the steps to a gray ledge and start following this south until you reach a lift next to a "SYSTEM OFFLINE" screen. Kill any revenants that step off the lift as it descends then press the screen to lower the lift again so you can ride it up to a platform with a plasma gun (note the blue skull button on the south wall as you will need to press it later). From here you can run north to land on the platform with the spiderdemon, where you will find the yellow skull key sitting on the north edge.

Blue key and exit[edit]

Run north to drop back to the starting area then press the yellow skull switch on the west wall to reveal another button behind it - this will open a tunnel to the east with two or three arch-viles, which you can follow to find the blue skull key along with a backpack and ammo boxes (there is also a supercharge here on I'm Too Young To Die (ITYTD) and Hey Not Too Rough (HNTR) skill levels). You now need to retrace your steps to the blue button at the south end of the level, but when you drop down to the snow on the west side you will find that this has turned to lava, and a cyberdemon has been released into the area along with cacodemons (and one or two pain elementals on Hurt Me Plenty (HMP) or higher). Fight your way through and follow the gray ledge back to the lift you used earlier, then ride this up to the blue skull button.

After pressing the button, run north across the spiderdemon platform to get back to the starting area, then proceed east through a door that has now opened to enter a room with two alcoves. Collect the health bonuses and kill any zombies that teleport in, then press the gargoyle switch in the west alcove to open a door in the east alcove. Ensure you are fully prepared before heading through this door as a battle against a horde of revenants and cacodemons lies ahead; once you start firing they will be joined by even more revenants along with arch-viles and two or three cyberdemons that teleport in. Run east into an L-shaped chamber and grab the BFG9000 in this area, then try to keep the enemies pinned in the north-west area as much as possible; there are lots of energy cell packs and two to four megaspheres in the chamber that will help you. Once all the enemies are killed, head to the northern-most area that the revenants came from to find another gargoyle switch, press it then go back to the south-east corner to find a teleporter. The teleporter will send you into a death exit, and the level will automatically end.

Other points of interest[edit]

After being lowered into the west area with the mancubi, head south to find some zombiemen guarding a rocket launcher and a megaarmor (or armor on HMP or higher).

Drop down to the ice under the yellow key platform to find many health bonuses and a megaarmor.

Secrets[edit]

  1. From the yellow key platform, go north onto the ridge and walk west until you reach a BFG9000 on ITYTD and HNTR, or a supercharge on other skill levels. (sector 10)
