MAP22: Spawned Fear is the twenty-second map of Doom 64 for Doom II. It was designed by Pedro VC and Brett Harrell (Mechadon), and uses the music track "Waltz of the Demons" from Doom by Robert Prince.

Walkthrough[edit]

Essentials[edit]

Go through the door and kill the monsters waiting outside, then head down the stairs north of the starting point and open the door at the bottom to see some shotgun guys guarding a chaingun. Continue east through two more doors to enter a library with nightmare imps, then go to the skull switch in the south-west corner and open the door next to it to face some lost souls. Once they are destroyed, press the switch to open a second door and reveal some revenants along with another switch, press it then go back to the library and open the northern door to face more shotgun guys. Continue west through another door to face a baron of Hell, then press the gargoyle switch behind it to raise a lift in the previous room, then ride that lift up and look north to see four eye switches. Shooting the second switch from the right will lower the pedestal with the blue skull key, but shooting any other switch will cause monsters to teleport to the library (you do not need to release them to get 100% kills, they will be crushed at the end of the level).

Go back outside and head north through an arch with a super shotgun, go down the steps and run west past some lost souls to a blue door. Go through the door then go to the switch at the south end of the next room to open another door – approaching the switch will raise a maze of walls behind you and open a cage containing six revenants and/or arch-viles. Using the columns as cover, go to the south-east corner of the maze and pass through the door you just opened, which will activate a crusher inside the cage, then go to the south-west corner of the next room to reveal a zombie guarding a supercharge and a skull switch. Press the switch to open a second skull switch in the north-west corner along with a rocket launcher, then press that switch to open the marble block and release some lost souls and cacodemons. Inside the block is a pole with four gargoyle switches – shoot all the switches to open four more skull switches in the east and west walls, then press those switches to raise a set of steps at the south end of the room. Climb the steps and look north to see some barons guarding yet another switch that you can press to lower the red skull key.

Getting the blue will open a shortcut back to the maze room just behind you. Return to the library and open the red door in the south-east corner to face some Hell knights and revenants, then go to the south-west corner of the room and open the wall with the painting to enter a canyon. Go to the white-floored area on the west side and press the button hidden in the north-east corner to lower the southern platform, get on it and dispose of a few lost souls before pressing a second button hidden on the column here to lower the northern platform. Get on the northern platform and deal with some more lost souls, press a third button on the column here to lower the western platform, then go to that platform and kill any pain elementals that teleport in before pressing the lion switch to open a staircase on the east side of the canyon. (Before going up this staircase, press the lion switch in the south-east corner of the canyon to open an alcove with more lost souls, then go down the fleshy steps here to get a radiation shielding suit that will protect you in the next area.) Go up the staircase you opened earlier and press the satyr switch ahead to lower a lift to your left, ride it up then drop into the damaging blood below and follow the path east, south and west past some imps until you drop into a pit, which will automatically rise for you. Continue west to some steps, climb them then run north across two gaps to get to the yellow skull key.

Return to the starting area and open the yellow door at the west end, then go down the steps to a square room where you will be ambushed by revenants, imps and a baron. Continue east to a pentagram wall and open it to find one to three pain elementals guarding the exit switch.

Other points of interest[edit]

Press the gargoyle switch in the south-west corner of the canyon to lower the pillar behind you, revealing a baron and a supercharge.

Secrets[edit]

  1. In the central hall, use the wall with brown vines to find shotgun guys, health bonuses and a supercharge. (sector 105)
  2. Head down the steps north of the starting room and open two doors. Use the wall with two faces to lower bookshelves in this room and the room before it, containing a box of rockets and two medikits. (sector 120)
  3. See secret #2. (sector 125)
  4. In the maze area behind the blue door, go to the north-east wall and lower it, then go up the steps to get a megaarmor. (sector 262)
  5. In the hall leading to the red key, press on the gargoyle face on the right side to get a plasma gun. (sector 89)
  6. In the canyon area at the south-east end, get to the north-east side, and a bit south of a medikit, use the rock wall to the east to find energy cells and a megasphere. (sector 195)
  7. Approach the exit door and you will hear something open. Quickly head back to the central hall and through the open doors to the west to the BFG9000 before it closes. (sector 27)
