MAP23: Abysmal Affliction is the twenty-third map of Interception. It was designed by Jeff Banks (Pottus) and uses the music track "Birdsong," composed for the project by Stuart Rynn (stewboy). The par time defined in MAPINFO is 3:00.

Secrets[edit]
- As soon as the level starts, quickly turn northwest and run to the red wall, lowering it for a partial invisibility. (sector 890) Note that if you leave the room normally, you won't be able to acquire this secret.
- From Secret #1, you will be in a marble hall. Look north through the rocks and shoot at the fire, then go to the opposite end of the hall to find a lion switch. Press it, and the steps to the chainsaw will rise. (sector 842)
- From the red door, take the steps southeast and open the door to the outside. Head around the column you see until you reach its northwest side. Press on it to reveal a teleporter, where you can then get a megasphere. (sector 13)
- At the red pit where the cyberdemon is, press on the metal wall in the northwest corner, where you can find a soul sphere. (sector 690)
