Secrets[edit]
- After entering the castle, go up the stairs and turn around. If you glance left, you will see a candle with a demonic face behind it. Shoot it to open a nearby alcove containing a berserk pack. (sector 685)
- In the room with the Icon of Sin portrait, shoot the barrel to destroy the wall behind it, revealing five armor bonuses. (sector 65)
- In the next few rooms, once you get to the lever, before pressing it, you will notice a misaligned wall to your left. Press it to exit to a small courtyard where you can find a partial invisibility sphere. (sector 1048)
- After getting the blue skull key and making your way back to the entrance, open the blue door and then the refrigerator door to the right to obtain a backpack. (sector 524)
- In the next corridor, as you fight your way through the spectres, you can walk into the portrait to the left to obtain a computer area map. (sector 449)
- In the bedroom to the northeast, press on the first bookcase to the right to reveal five more armor bonuses. (sector 654)
- In the adjacent bathroom, press on the misaligned wall to the right to get a light amplification visor. (sector 625)
- When you reach the attic filled with boxes, one of the crates to the north (with Gerry written on it) can be opened to reveal a box of rockets. (sector 255)
- After picking up the red skull key, you can access a new room located close to the entrance (go up the stairs and turn left). In this room with blood-soaked walls, press on the wall that has a pentagram to reveal a rocket launcher. Picking it up will send you to a lower chamber protected by lost souls where you may operate a switch to teleport the Artifact of Spirit elsewhere in the map. (sector 458)
- Just before approaching the dining room, turn right to spot an off-looking wall that, upon being pressed, is revealed to contain a security armor. (sector 657)
- This next secret requires having found secret #9. In the engine room, there is a switch in a darkened area to the right. Press it, then after you've returned to the base of the building, go back to where the entrance to the room for the ninth secret it, but instead proceed further up the stairs and into the door to the left, then into the next small room here. To your right, there is a small white wall with a candle, which should be shot at or punched. Then, backtrack to the secret at #9 to find a large picture: attack that too to be able to finally grab the Artifact. (sector 1071)

Inspiration and development[edit]
- Castle of the Damned is also present as a map accessible through features in Doom 64 Reloaded where it is labeled as MAP50. The Reloaded version has several alterations, such as a different maze layout and a completely new switch hunt section, where you must evade homing fireballs from a central turret and green nightmare cacodemons perched atop towers that fire much faster projectiles dealing significantly more damage. Most notably, the main objective of the map has changed so that you must steal a Demon Key to kill the green nightmare mother demon that the level hints towards. The player then departs in what AtomicFrog stated was his father's heavily customized 1960's Impala Rat Rod labeled the "Hellseeker Mark 1".[citation needed]
