MAP23: The Dark Dawn is the twenty-third map of Claustrophobia 1024 2. It was designed by Przemek Zimny (alterworldruler) and Joonas Äijälä (Jodwin), and uses a MIDI rendition of "House #3" from A Nightmare on Elm Street, sequenced by The Jade Emperor, as its music track.

Essentials[edit]

This map can be divided into nine chambers. You start in the north-west chamber, while the exit is in the south-east chamber.

Take the super shotgun and use it to kill the imps in front of you, then press the switch they were guarding to open the north chamber, which contains a mancubus and an armor. Kill the imps, demons and spectres (and chaingunners on Ultra-Violence (UV) and Nightmare (NM) skill levels) that teleport in as you enter the chamber, then press the satyr switch to open the west chamber. Go there and kill a waiting arachnotron, slay the zombies that appear behind and above you as you enter the chamber then press the skull switch in the corner to open the north-east chamber. Go there and kill two demons and a spectre, then press the blue skull switch in the south-west corner to open a white teleporter pad with a second switch; this switch will open the south-west chamber, but will bring in another wave of imps and zombies (plus chaingunners on UV and NM).

Kill the imps and Hell knights waiting in the south-west chamber, then approach the switch on the north-east wall to summon some cacodemons that appear over the west wall; once they are dead, flip that switch to open the east chamber and bring in more knights. Go to the east chamber to kill an arachnotron, then press the skull switch here to open the south chamber - no monsters will appear immediately, but you will be ambushed by demons and spectres (and an overhead arch-vile on UV and NM) on the way round. Kill another arachnotron in the south chamber, then press the skull switch here to open the northern door to the south-east chamber, revealing a mancubus (or two revenants on UV and NM). Take the megasphere then press the skull switch next to it to open the middle chamber, which contains four or eight revenants (or a cyberdemon on UV and NM), as well as the western door to the south-east chamber. Fight your way there to kill a mancubus, press the skull switch to lower the dividing wall then step over it to get a plasma gun - doing so will lower the walls blocking the exit teleporter, but you will have to fight off a pack of revenants, imps, demons and chaingunners that appear while you wait, along with an arch-vile waiting on the exit.
