MAP23: Whispering Winds is the twenty-third map of the megawad Scythe 2. It was designed by Erik Alm and uses the E2M2 theme from Heretic.

Walkthrough[edit]

Letters in italics refer to marked spots on the map. Sector numbers in boldface are secrets which count toward the end-of-level tally.

Essentials[edit]

At the start go forward, up the stairs and turn left. Go around the central structure and exit to the north. Facing the door in front look to your left and approach the opening. Climb up the stairs and as you get near the door it will open. Climb up the stairs and take the red key behind the pillar. Return to the door seen earlier and open it, then open the red door behind it. Enter this room and take the stairs to your right, then go left.

Enter the outside area and move towards the opposite corner to find the blue key. As you pick up the key bars will lower, locking the exit for 30 seconds. Fend off against the teleporting monsters while you wait then exit this area and go forward to find the blue bars to your left. Go through the bars, turn left and climb the stairs to your right. Enter the structure to your right and flip the switch in front, slightly to your left. Turn right to access the balcony again, then go through the lowered bars in front to your left.

Turn left and go up the stairs to your right to raise the bars in front. Enter this opening then climb the stairs to your left and you will see the wall in front lower. Enter this room and press the switch to the left, then exit and drop down into the pit to your left. Turn left, follow the path and drop into the pit to your right at the end. Turn right and go forward, climb up the stairs slightly to your left as you approach them and collect the yellow key by the waterfall. Turn around and retrace your steps to the entrance of this area. Climb up the stairs and you should see two openings in front. Take the right one then go through the yellow bars to exit the level.

Secrets[edit]

  1. Enter the central building in the map, the one with the entrance guarded by two arch-viles. At the top of the first set of the steps, look east to spot a box of rockets on a pillar. There is also a switch with an energy cell pack in front of it to the south. You need to reach this switch to access the box of rockets. To do so, from the top of the steps, step onto the ledge that leads to the south wall, then make a well-timed jump to the switch platform. The switch will lower the pillar with the box of rockets.   2. In the northernmost building, press on the face at the north wall. Then go to the southeast to find an opening outside leading to boxes of rockets, energy cell packs, and a soul sphere. (sector 512)
