MAP24: Burial of Eden is the twenty-fourth map of Doom 2 Unleashed. It was designed by Jointritual and uses the music track "Sign of Evil" by Robert Prince.

When using the music WAD included with this megawad, this level instead uses the music track "Cremation" by Paul Corfiatis.

Essentials[edit]

Blue key[edit]

Drop off the ledge in front of you and blow up the barrels ahead, which should kill the demons inside them. Press the gargoyle switch to lower a pillar with a teleporter and step into it, which will send you to a cross-shaped walkway overlooked by imps and shotgun guys (you will also collect a chaingun when you arrive). Drop into the north-east lava pit (which is harmful) and use the metal lift by the rock wall to get into an overhead passage containing a super shotgun. Go round the corner to confront a baron of Hell, as well as some imps hiding behind a wall, then press the gargoyle switch behind the baron to reveal a chaingunner guarding a lion switch. Shoot this switch then step into the teleporter that was behind the imps, guarded by two shotgun guys.

You will return to the cross-shaped walkway where two demons and two revenants have appeared. Kill them then go through the east door and kill two Hell knights that appear in front of you, then follow the passage past two red torches where the walls on either side will open to reveal two demons and two chaingunners - imps and shotgun guys will also teleport in ahead of you. Continue following the passage past some health and armor bonuses until you go through a tall archway, then look at the metal column on your right and kill one or two revenants waiting behind it. Step on the circular pad with an armor pickup in front of you to lower a red wall ahead and reveal four shotgun guys, then step past the wall to reveal four revenants (or two revenants and two imps on I'm Too Young To Die (ITYTD) and Hey Not Too Rough (HNTR) skill levels).

Head south-east to a set of wide steps and open the door at the top, then turn left and left again to kill two chaingunners guarding another door. Open it and kill two knights, then press the gargoyle switch ahead to lower a wall and reveal a passage with chaingunners and imps, then follow the passage until you see a baron in front of a satyr switch. Kill the baron and step across a square platform to reach the switch (part of the platform falls away when stepped on), press it then backtrack to the area past the wide door where a wall has lowered to reveal various monsters. Head east into a tunnel into a red floor and press the gargoyle switch, which will reopen the wide door but also open two alcoves next to the switch with shotgun guys and chaingunners. Kill them along with the spectres that teleport in behind you, then go back down the wide steps to find that a pillar has lowered in the middle of the hall, letting you reach the blue skull key.

Yellow key[edit]

Taking the blue key will open two chambers to the north and south containing arachnotrons and mancubi, and a third chamber near the top of the wide steps containing imps; an arch-vile will also teleport into the triangular room to the west which can attack you through the fences so use caution. Go into the south chamber with the mancubi and press the gargoyle switch (which will re-open the door to the cross-shaped walkway), then climb the wide steps and go into the imps' chamber to find a lion switch which will open the wall blocking the triangular room. Kill the arch-vile if you have not already done so, then backtrack to the cross-shaped walkway (where some cacodemons have appeared) and head through the south door indicated by a blue skull pillar.

Kill the zombies in the hallway ahead then go round the corner and down a set of steps, heading forward until you see a wall open on your right to reveal imps and demons. Go a little further forward to collect a box of shotgun shells (which will also open an overhead alcove to the left containing imps) then press the satyr switch on the left to open two doors ahead and reveal shotgun guys and lost souls. Go through the north door and follow the passage round to a fenced area with two cacodemons, watching out for an alcove on the left that opens to reveal imps. There is an opening in the east side of the fence - go through it (it will close behind you) and kill one or two revenants that emerge from an alcove that opens ahead. Go into the alcove to find a berserk pack, then press the satyr switch to open a door outside the fence hiding a mancubus.

Leave the alcove and press the lion switch by the west wall, which will lower the column next to it - step on it and it will carry you up to a small chamber containing a rocket launcher. Take the weapon then step on the lift again to go back down, where three more alcoves containing knights have opened outside the fence. The northern-most alcove in the east wall contains a lion switch - shoot it to lower the bars so you can leave the fenced area, then go into the passage that the mancubus came from. The bars in front of you will open as you approach, revealing a baron guarding a satyr switch - press it then leave the passage and head west, following the left-hand fence until you reach an opening which you can go through to a square lift, which will reveal imps and demons when lowered. Drop off the lift and head east until you reach a marble wall, then turn right to go down a staircase with an arachnotron waiting at the bottom.

When you reach the bottom of the stairs two shotgun guys and two revenants will appear in front of you - kill them and go round the wooden column to find a satyr switch, which will open a wall on your right and reveal two cacodemons (plus shotgun guys on Hurt Me Plenty (HMP) skill level or higher), as well as a closet behind you with demons and spectres. Step past the right-hand wall and be ready to kill an arch-vile waiting behind a bookcase, then turn left to enter a passage with imps and a shotgun guy (plus a cacodemon and a pain elemental waiting behind two walls). Go round the corner to find a wooden door and a staircase, then pass through the door and kill the monsters waiting behind it. Press the satyr switch on the north wall to raise a set of stairs on your right, then go up these stairs and follow the walkway past a revenant (or two revenants and a knight on Ultra-Violence (UV) and Nightmare (NM) skill levels) until you reach a gargoyle switch.

Press the switch and deal with the baron that is revealed behind you, then leave the room and go down the staircase you passed earlier to see the yellow skull key through a small window. Turn right and follow the steps down to the bottom, then turn left and cross the lava to a silver lift (a revenant and a knight will be revealed on your right, or two revenants on UV and NM). Lower the lift and kill two imps waiting behind it, then step past the lift and turn left to find a lion switch next to a large column. Press the switch to lower the east wall and reveal more imps behind it, then step past the wall and kill the overhead monsters before climbing the north steps to a satyr switch. Press the switch to raise another staircase just behind you, then climb these stairs up to a passage and follow it round to a skull switch, passing zombies and a knight on the way (or a baron on UV and NM).

Press the switch and be ready to kill two or three demons that are revealed on your left, then backtrack to the area where you saw the yellow key through a window and kill any zombies that get in the way. Back at the window, head east to a teleporter that can now be reached and step into it to reach a satyr switch behind a fence - press this switch and the skull switch hidden behind it, then kill the knight that is revealed on your left and step into the teleporter behind it to be sent to the room below. Turn around and lower the silver lift behind you, then ride it up and turn right to climb a newly-formed staircase to the yellow key.

Red key[edit]

Go back down the stairs, cross the lava and head north up the stairs to return to the window where you first saw the yellow key through a window, then head north up another staircase and go left at the top to return to an earlier room. In this room are some yellow skull bars blocking a doorway - open the wooden door next to them (requiring the yellow key), kill the baron behind it and press the lion switch it was guarding to open the bars. Go through the bars and head west until you reach a red trident symbol on the floor, then turn right to go up some steps and press the lion switch at the top. Two metal lifts will lower behind you - ride either lift up and kill the cacodemons blocking your way then head south to another lion switch, watching out for one or two revenants waiting to ambush you.

Press the switch then go back to the yellow key door, where a wall has lowered to reveal one or more knights and barons as well as a wooden plinth with a berserk pack. Step on the plinth to lower a set of bars blocking a doorway to the east, kill any demons and spectres that teleport in then backtrack to the room with the cross-shaped walkway. Just before you go back through the blue key door you will see an open door on the left - go through it and step across to a stone platform under a hanging corpse and turn left to kill two imps (plus a pain elemental on UV and NM), then step across the next few platforms to reach the imps' ledge. Two of the platforms will drop away when stepped on - if you fall off, use the teleporter in the north-west corner to reach the ledge.

Press the lion switch (which will lower a pillar holding the red skull key) then step into the teleporter next to it and kill the revenant on your right. Go back through the blue key door then head north through a second door with a yellow skull pillar next to it, killing two waiting revenants before stepping into a teleporter behind them to enter a hall with a red star pattern on the floor. As you step off the teleporter four walls will open to release a cyberdemon and demons - use the plasma gun in the middle of the hall to kill everything, then head west to a wooden door and press the satyr switch next to it to open the door. Kill one or two revenants that ambush you from either side, then dispatch any other monsters in the room before taking the red skull key sitting in the middle of the room.

Exit[edit]

Taking the red key will open a marble wall to the west with an arch-vile waiting behind it, and a large number of monsters will teleport in including demons, imps, knights and revenants. Head through the marble wall to kill the arch-vile and take the megasphere here if needed, then turn around to deal with the monsters behind you - if any monsters get through the door then they will be teleported behind you. After everything is killed, head west up the steps to another teleporter which will rise out of reach as you approach then press the satyr switch on the wall to open two wooden doors. Kill the zombies waiting behind the doors then head through to another wooden door, watching out for imps that teleport in behind you.

Go through the door and kill the monsters on the surrounding ledges, then press the lion switch ahead of you - a baron will teleport on to the ledge above, but ignore it for now and kill the revenants (and arch-vile on HMP or higher) that have been released behind you first. Go back to the room where you found the plasma gun to find that a satyr switch has been revealed by the north-east corner - press it then return to the teleporter that rose out of your reach earlier to see that it can now be stepped on. Use the teleporter to return to the cross-shaped walkway, watching out for a revenant sitting on a ledge to the south-west.

Go down the west set of steps to find a teleporter, step into it and kill the monsters at the top of the steps. The room has three locked doors - open the door under the blue skull and press the gargoyle switch behind it, then open the door under the yellow skull and kill one or two revenants before pressing another gargoyle switch. Finally, open the door under the red skull to confront an arch-vile then press the satyr switch, kill the revenants and arch-vile that teleport in behind you then look behind the blue door again to find an eye switch. Press this switch then lower the lift in the east wall and ride it up to a teleporter (the lift waits for ten seconds before rising) which will put you back on the cross-shaped walkway. Head west across a bridge that has risen to a wooden door which will open automatically to reveal a baron guarding a lion switch - press this switch to lower the bars around the sky floor in front of you, and step on this floor to finish the level.

Secrets[edit]

  1. At the cross-shaped walkway, drop into the lava to the south-west and step on the small skull step next to the pillar with an imp. You will be teleported to an enclosed area with a supercharge. (sector 854)
  2. Open the blue door at the cross-shaped walkway and head south, then east. Use the lift near the switch to reach stimpacks and a box of shotgun shells. (sector 1376)
  3. In the hall with the trident marking on the floor (past the yellow skull bars), use the wall of blood to the south of the marking to reveal a switch. Using it lowers a nearby wall where you can get a megaarmor and a computer area map. (sector 758)
  4. In the western-most area, use the northern lift to reach a supercharge and rockets. (sector 1181)

Bugs[edit]

Two shotgun guys (Things 76 and 77) near the blue skullkey and a box of bullets (741) in the south have no flags set for any of the three difficulty classes, so they do not actually appear in the level.
