MAP24: MAP04 - Tomb of the Apostate is the twenty-fourth map of Switcheroom 2. It was designed by Walter Confalonieri (daimon) and uses the music track "The Oath" by Merciful Fate. It is loosely based on the layout of MAP04: The Focus.

Walkthrough[edit]

Essentials[edit]

Take the armor and press the skull switch in front of you to go down to a cave with shotgun guys and chaingunners, then press the gargoyle switch at the west end of the ledge to raise a bridge. Head north across the bridge and climb to the top of the steps, which will open a tunnel to your left containing more chaingunners, then open the door at the west end of this tunnel to enter a room with demons (and revenants on Hurt Me Plenty (HMP) skill level or higher). Go south through another door to enter a dark passage, press the lit lion switch next to the door to turn on the lights, then follow the passage south and east to a small library. Press the skull switch at the north end of the library to lower the large bookcase at the west end, then run off that bookcase as it rises to get to the red skull key.

Taking the red key will open a teleporter just to the west. Enter the teleporter (which has a supercharge in front of it on HMP or lower) to go to the blood pool at the west end of the map, where various monsters will teleport in, then head north into a tunnel with a rocket launcher before continuing on to a large cavern. Fight past some Hell knights, revenants and barons of Hell to the teleporter at the east end of the cavern, enter it to go to the north end of the starting area then go through the doorway here to find a locked satyr switch. Open the switch using the red key, then step across a stone platform to reach the island with the yellow skull key on it; taking the key will raise a bridge connecting to the northern ledge, but a cyberdemon will teleport in at the east end of the cavern to block your path back to the teleporter.

Enter the teleporter at the east end again to return to the starting area, then open the yellow door at the east end to drop into a blood pit. Enter the teleporter in the north-west chamber to go to the southern ledge, then follow the ledge to an eye switch and press it to release some chaingunners on the northern ledge, as well as opening another switch there. Use the teleporter in the south-east chamber to go to the northern ledge and approach the switch, dispose of the arch-vile that blocks your path then flip the switch to raise a bridge over the pit. Use the switches on either side of the bridge to lower it, then open the exit door on the east side of the bridge to find three cacodemons guarding the exit hole.

  1. In the yellow key area, approach the east teleporter, then quickly run to the south-west end of the area to an open room that has a light amplification visor, a box of shotgun shells and a medikit. (sector 101) On Ultra-Violence and Nightmare, the pain elemental in this secret will be able to open it from the inside when alerted.
  2. Open the south wall in secret #1 and go south up some steps to the ledge here. Open a wall to the east to find a stimpack, an energy cell pack and a plasma gun. (sector 45)

Non-official[edit]

  • In the red key area, step on the small book next to the switch to lower a column in the south-east corner with a chaingun. The book has one-use linedefs on its south and west sides, so you only get two chances to collect the weapon.
