MAP26: Acheron is the twenty-sixth map of Doom 2 Reloaded. It was designed by Andy Stewart (eschdoom). The par time is 9:45.

Walkthrough[edit]
Essentials[edit]
The keys in this level can be collected in any order. All three are needed to open the exit.
Yellow key[edit]
Go through the door in front of you, but be ready to run as the walls on either side will open to reveal chaingunners. Head north around a rectangular hallway, then open the wooden door at the north end and walk forward to drop down to a berserk pack. Step forward into the lava and collect the super shotgun, which will alert two cacodemons and/or pain elementals, then enter the teleporters on either side of the lava to teleport to the arena at the south end of the map. Go down some steps to reach a blood pit surrounded by a walkway, then head round to the south end and press the skull switch here to lower the metal structure, revealing a spiderdemon and cyberdemon. Let the monsters fight each other, finish off the survivor then climb up to the spiderdemon's platform to find a skull switch next to another teleporter. Press the switch then enter the teleporter to return to the rectangular hallway, where another door has opened; go through it before it closes, then fight through some zombies to drop down to the pillar holding the yellow key.
Red key[edit]
Go through the doorway on the west side of the rectangular hallway and follow the path to a junction. Go south-west into a room with three columns, then go to the blood pools at the south end of the room to find a plasma gun; doing so opens four alcoves from which one or more revenants and/or shotgun guys will appear. Go through the wall that opens at the north end of the room to confront a Hell knight, then press the gargoyle switch it was guarding to open a set of bars nearby. Return to the junction and go north-east, then follow the passage through the bars you just opened to enter a Y-shaped room. Go to the north-west or south-west ends of the room to enter a blood pool, then go to the center to collect the red skull key; taking it will cause an arch-vile to teleport in.
Blue key[edit]
In the north-east corner of the rectangular hallway is a staircase leading down to another blood pool. On entering the blood, go south through a low tunnel into a room with cacodemons, then drop to the floor below and continue south past a mancubus to enter a larger room. Enter the dark area at the south end of the room, then go to the east end to find a skull switch in an alcove that will open some bars just above you. Use the lift on the east side of the room to get to those bars, go up the steps and kill one or two revenants at the top who are guarding another skull switch, which will open a second set of bars on the other side of the room. Step across the pillars to reach the second set of bars, follow the path past some zombies then activate two lifts at the end to get the blue skull key. If you ride the lift holding the blue key, you can open a set of blue bars at the top to get back to the rectangular hallway.
Exit[edit]
With all three keys, head north from the rectangular hallway into a room with an arachnotron and revenants, then follow a corridor north and east to a blood river. Cross the bridge and go round the vine-covered building in front of you to find an entrance, then open all three colored bars and press the skull switch behind them to open the exit teleporter. Go back across the bridge and kill an arch-vile (two on Ultra-Violence and Nightmare skill levels), then follow the corridor south to the teleporter to end the level.

Secrets[edit]
- In the outdoor area at the north-west end, head through the skin wall at the south-east corner and open the wall here for rockets, a megasphere, a box of shotgun shells and a box of bullets. (sector 567)
- Open the wooden door leading to the lava pit, run forward to the pentagram wall below you and press a hidden button, then take either teleporter to the arena with the spiderdemon and cyberdemon. When you reach the arena proper, there should be an open area to the north with ammo, medikits, and a computer area map. (sector 524)
- In the southwestern-most room, approaching the plasma gun reveals alcoves, in which revenants (or shotgun guys on lower skill levels) teleport to in order to attack you. The south-east alcove has no blood on the back wall. Open the wall to find two medikits and partial invisibility. (sector 404)
- At the blood pit where the blue key is, use the lift to go up, but look south just before it rises. When you spot a lion face, shoot it, then go east and through the new opening where you will find stimpacks, clips, rockets, shotgun shells and a megaarmor. (sector 357)
