Essentials[edit]

Yellow key[edit]

Walk forward and take the super shotgun (or shotgun on Ultra-Violence (UV) and Nightmare (NM) skill levels) and plasma gun (or chaingun on Hurt Me Plenty (HMP) or higher) on your left, then turn left at a junction to reach a hexagonal hub guarded by chaingunners. Enter the west tunnel and go forward until you are ambushed by two revenants from either side who are guarding a pair of teleporters, enter the north teleporter then walk west and north down some steps to a lava pool. Step over the pool and kill the revenants in the tunnel ahead, then head east through some more lava pools and kill a mancubus that is blocking your path. Press the skull button on the north wall to lower a lift and ride it up to a ledge with imps and a Hell knight, then walk to the south end of the ledge to find a pentagram button that will lower some nearby walls.

Drop to the floor and head west to find the teleporter you used earlier, which will return you to the hub area. Go through the north-east doorway in the hub then follow the path east and north, past a partial invisibility, to another teleporter; step into this then head south to find the walls you opened earlier. Step through and collect the supercharge by the east wall (or armor on HMP or higher), then walk into the alcove in the north wall to find the yellow skull key; the wall will lower as you approach, revealing six barons of Hell on I'm Too Young To Die (ITYTD) or Hey Not Too Rough (HNTR), or a cyberdemon on HMP or higher. Hold off these enemies, along with revenants and demons/spectres that teleport in, while you wait for the doors to this area to re-open so you can escape.

Red and blue keys[edit]

Retrace your steps to the hub, then go to its west side to open a barrier with yellow symbols on it. Press the skull button in front of you to lower the floor, kill some zombies and cacodemons that teleport in then leave the hub by the north-west doorway which has been revealed. Dispose of three mancubi on the ledge ahead, then press the pentagram button in the north-east corner to lower a lift to the west. Ride the lift up and collect all the supplies, including a berserk pack and many armor bonuses, then walk south to press another pentagram that will lower a pillar with the red skull key. Go back to the hub and kill two arch-viles that have been released, leave by the south-west doorway then walk west and north to collect the key - watch out for cacodemons approaching from the west, along with a spiderdemon on a nearby ledge on HMP or higher.

Go back to the hub and head through the south-east doorway, then walk east and south to find a red key door; kill a revenant approaching from the east, then open the door and press the skull button behind it to lower a teleporter to the north. Enter the teleporter and be ready to kill one or two revenants on HMP or higher, then walk round to the east side of the white wall in this room to find an arch-vile guarding a pentagram button. Press the button then step back through the teleporter, then follow the path south and west to get back to the hub - watch out for various enemies that have been released as you go, including a baron (or arch-vile on HMP or higher) guarding a megaarmor.

Back at the hub, head through the north doorway with a rocket launcher to reach a teleporter you used earlier, then follow the path south until you get to another red key door. Open the door and look right to find two revenants guarding a maw switch, press it then head through the south wall to find a megasphere which is guarded by two arch-viles that teleport in. Continue south through a second wall to get back to an earlier room, then proceed south-east to find that a third wall has lowered to reveal two revenants (plus a BFG9000 on ITYTD and HNTR). Drop into the tunnel below and follow the tunnel south to find a pillar holding the blue key - before you can get it, you will need to deal with revenants, chaingunners, mancubi and an arachnotron hiding in four nearby closets, as well as two arch-viles that teleport in.

Exit[edit]

Once the monsters guarding the blue key are killed, press a skull button inside the east closet to lower the key pillar; this will also allow four more arch-viles to teleport in from the west, so kill them before they can do serious damage. With the blue key, follow the tunnel north to return to the hub then go through the north-west doorway to get back to the west side of the map. Continue west to an enclosed area with a plasma gun in a lava pit, then press the skull button on the north wall to open the door to the exit. Head back to the hub and go through the south-west doorway this time, then head west past a group of revenants that have been released until you reach a cavern with an exit sign. Press the skull button on the south wall to finish the level.

Other points of interest[edit]

After walking through the barrier requiring the yellow key, look behind the skull button to find a megaarmor (or super shotgun on UV and NM). Pressing the button that lowers the red key pillar will open a wall here, releasing two arch-viles but also allowing you to collect two energy cell packs - depending on skill level, you will also find a third cell pack, two backpacks and/or plasma gun.

Secrets[edit]

  1. West of the hub, take the south teleporter, then head north to the wooden wall with the skull. Using it lowers a pillar to your right, where you can get boxes of rockets and a teleporter to a megasphere and two backpacks (on ITYTD or HNTR), or shotgun shells, a supercharge, and a plasma gun (HMP or higher, and on UV or NM the plasma gun will be replaced by a super shotgun). (sector 111)
  2. Approaching the yellow key platform will have it lower. You may have noticed switches on the base of that platform, and you can use these switches even when they are lowered. Use them, then go to the north-west corner of the room to get a backpack, an energy cell pack (box of shotgun shells on UV and NM), and depending on your skill level, a BFG, plasma gun or super shotgun. (sector 42)
  3. Go through the red key door on the east side of the map (leading to the maw switch) then go to the north-east corner of that room. Press on the recessed wall to lower one behind you. Follow the trail of armor bonuses north to get a BFG (only on HMP) or a supercharge (other skill levels). (sector 124)
  4. In the room with the blue key, a hidden lever is in the south-west corner. Flip it, then when you can, go back to the area to the north-east, which is now open. You will find two energy cells, and either a megasphere (ITYTD or HNTR) or a BFG (HMP or higher). (sector 145)

Bugs[edit]

A cyberdemon (thing 723) appearing only in multiplayer mode will prevent the platform on which it stands (sector 41) lowering, making it impossible to access the red skull key and complete the map.
