MAP27: Tower of Desolation is the twenty-seventh map of Claustrophobia 1024 2. It was designed by Solarn and Joonas Äijälä (Jodwin), and uses a MIDI rendition of "In the Arms of Death (Testament's Theme)" from the Korean version of Guilty Gear XX #Reload, sequenced by solis, as its music track.

Essentials[edit]

You begin in a hub with four colored doors. Open the white door in front of you then head straight forward to a second door and pass through it to enter a room with three skull switches. Press all three switches, killing the imps that teleport in after each one, to lower the east and west walls, then go to the fences at the east and west ends and look through them to see a fleshy hole with an eye switch inside it. Shoot both switches to lower the bars in the middle of the room, kill the demons and chaingunners that appear behind you then take the yellow skull key that was hidden behind the bars.

Go back to the hub and open the yellow door, then step forward to a second door - two imps (or revenants on Hurt Me Plenty (HMP) skill level or higher) will appear to your left and right. Go through the door to find a skull switch and press it to drop four gargoyle switches from the ceiling, and bring in a revenant (or arch-vile on HMP or higher), then press all the gargoyle switches to drop the north and south walls. Hidden behind these walls are two more skull switches - press them one at a time, kill the imps and Hell knights that teleport in then take the blue skull key hidden behind the bars at the north end of the platform. Watch out for two lost souls and/or cacodemons that teleport in to defend the key.

Go back to the hub and open the blue door to see four small pillars. You must step across the pillars to reach a super shotgun and the next door, and be ready to dodge two chaingunners (or knights on HMP or higher) that teleport to your left and right (if you fall into the lava below, press any of the pillars to lower them like lifts). Go through the south door and fight past some monsters to reach two blue skull pillars at the back of the room, then press both pillars to lower the red skull key that is placed between them - a chaingunner (or revenant on Ultra-Violence (UV) and Nightmare (NM)) will teleport in after lowering each pillar, and taking the key causes multiple imps (plus a knight on HMP and a revenant on UV and NM) to appear. The dividing wall north of the key will lower after a moment, and walking through it will teleport you back to the hub.

Back in the hub, open the red door and step across the platforms to another door - the platforms will fall away as you cross them, and two knights (or a knight and arch-vile on UV and NM) will appear to your left and right. Go through the door to enter a room with several hidden switches that must be revealed and pressed in sequence to reach the exit, while killing monsters that teleport in after each press.

  1. Press the switch at the west end, which will open the square marble columns and bring in two or four chaingunners.
  2. Press the switch to the west of the north column, which will bring in four or six chaingunners.
  3. Press the switch just south of the middle column, which will bring in two knights.
  4. Press the switch to the east of the south column, which will bring in two knights and two or four imps.
  5. Press the switch to the east of the north column, which will bring in two revenants.
  6. Press the switch to the west of the south column, which will bring in two knights (or two revenants on HMP or higher).
  7. Press the switch just north of the middle column, which will open the middle column and bring in two knights (or one knight and one baron of Hell on UV and NM).

Once the middle column opens, press the skull switch inside it to release an arch-vile into the dark cages on the west side of the map, and release revenants (plus one or two more arch-viles on HMP or higher) on the east side of the map; the walls dividing the four sections will also drop, revealing four skull switches at the corners of the hub. Press all four switches to lower a teleporter on the east side, which goes to a blood pool that you can step in to finish the level.

Other points of interest[edit]

The cages around the edge of the map contain imps and shotgun guys, who can attack you without being seen.

Secrets[edit]

There are no official secrets on this map.

Bugs[edit]

The three multiplayer-only shotguns (Things 89, 90 and 91) in the center of the map have no flags set for any of the three difficulty classes, so they do not actually appear in the level.
