MAP28: The Spirit World is the twenty-eighth map of Doom 2 In Name Only. It was designed by Cyriak Harris (mouldy). The par time defined in MAPINFO is 7:00.

Take the shotgun in front of you then head north, passing a red building and some imps, until you get to an archway with a chaingun underneath it. Go through the archway then turn left or right and continue heading north past more imps until you reach a crypt with a large skeleton inside it; you will find various items inside the crypt including a megaarmor and supercharge, as well as a lost soul blocking a skull switch. Pressing the switch will open doors on either side of it, and cause a large number of monsters to teleport outside; the doors you just opened are blocked by two flesh bars and you will have to go back outside to find the switches that open them. Go to the west side of the outdoor area, which has a red brick wall running through the middle, and enter the dark tomb on the south side of this wall to find the first switch, then go to the east side to find the second switch under a large gazebo.

With both switches pressed, return to the crypt and pass through the now-open doorways to find a megasphere opposite another skull switch - pressing this switch will drop you into a square hall that is filled with revenants, which will be joined by Hell knights, mancubi, cacodemons and lost souls (plus one or two arch-viles on Hurt Me Plenty skill level or higher) that teleport in from the north. Open the west door to enter a room with a large black crucifix and slay some demons, then head north along a red-carpeted corridor until you reach an outdoor pool guarded by arachnotrons, as well as a cyberdemon inside the central tower. Run around the outside ledge to a button on the south wall and press it to raise two platforms leading into the tower, then grab the invulnerability on the north platform and use it to help kill the cyberdemon before pressing the button inside the tower. Pressing the button lowers a plinth to the east holding the blue skull key, but also allows one to three arch-viles to teleport in around you.

Return to the main hall, where imps and cacodemons have teleported in, then go through the east door and drop off the ledge in front of you to land in a blood pool with some skull pits. Kill the demon inside the south-east pit, drop into it then flip the skull switch on the south wall to lower it and reveal a tunnel to a red rock cavern, then go up the steps on the west side of the cavern and fight your way past some zombies until you see a skull switch on your left - pressing it will lower the yellow skull key, which you can see through the window, but will also allow many more zombies to teleport in. Take the yellow key then return to the main hall to find that a spiderdemon and one or two cyberdemons have appeared, fight your way to the locked doors behind the spiderdemon and open them to discover a mancubus inside a fiery alcove. Kill the mancubus then step into the alcove to teleport to the building north of the starting point; the marble pentagram in front of you is the exit teleporter.

Other points of interest[edit]

There are two teleporters in the corridors east and west of the main hall, which require the blue and yellow keys to open respectively. The east teleporter leads to a ledge in the main hall with boxes of rockets, energy cell packs and a megasphere, while the west teleporter leads to another ledge with boxes of rockets, energy cell packs and an invulnerability.

Enter the room south of the black crucifix to find a BFG9000. Taking it will release one to three arch-viles behind you, and cause cacodemons and pain elementals to teleport into the crucifix room.
