Walkthrough[edit]
Essentials[edit]
You begin in the central hub which has eight teleporters. Only four of the teleporters are needed to get all the keys and exit the level; two of those teleporters are barred and will open once you collect the matching keys.
Enter the south-east teleporter to go to a hall with four spiderdemons on lifts, each of which has a group of arachnotrons in front of each other; try to avoid killing any arachnotrons at this point, as the spiderdemons will probably shoot them and provoke infighting. In the center of the hall are three supercharges and/or invulnerabilities (depending on skill level), and at the north end you will find a megaarmor in front of four skull switches. Pressing the switches will lower the lifts that the spiderdemons are standing on, making it easier for the arachnotrons to kill them; you can also activate the lifts using the eye switches on them to get the items hidden behind them. The yellow skull key is hidden behind the south-east lift, which is controlled by the rightmost switch; picking it up will lower the barriers around the teleporter that leads back to the hub.
Back in the hub, enter the west teleporter (which opened when you picked up the yellow key) to go to that side of the map, then run across the white rocks in front of you, which will drop into the lava below, to reach a door which opens automatically. Go through the door and head south through the next room to find a few zombies guarding the blue skull key; taking it lowers the wooden blocks behind you to reveal several revenants and mancubi, along with (depending on skill level) an invulnerability, a megasphere or two supercharges. Press both skull switches in the blood pool to raise the white rocks you crossed earlier, as well as opening another block to reveal an arch-vile, then press a third skull switch hidden behind this block to lower a lift that goes up to the door. Go back outside and deal with the cacodemons and/or pain elemental that have appeared, then go back across the white rocks to the teleporter that goes back to the hub.
Back in the hub, enter the north-east teleporter to go to a small chamber, then shoot the gargoyle switch in front of you to reveal another teleporter and enter it to go to the north-east section of the map. Drop into the blood on the east side, activate the spine lift at the north end to reveal a tunnel then go to the north end to find a chainsaw; reaching it lowers a teleporter at the east end, but also activates several small crushers in the tunnel that you need to avoid. Enter the teleporter you just lowered to go to the ledge above the blood pool, where you can open a pair of blue bars and get the red skull key behind them. Step off the ledge to teleport back to the initial chamber, then use the original teleporter to return to the hub where the south-west teleporter has opened.
Enter the south-west teleporter to go to a valley with several brown platforms over a lava pit, which can only be traversed by running. some of the platforms are stable, but the platforms with cracked floors will fall into the lava as you step across them; if you miss a jump and fall into the lava, run through some imps to the north end of the valley and use the steps here to climb out. At the north end of the valley is a wooden wall that will lower to reveal the exit switch, but you will have to fight off a gang of flying monsters while you wait.
Other points of interest[edit]
Secrets[edit]
- Take the south teleporter to a long hall and get to the end of it. After going to where the cyberdemon is, the two side walls of the long hall can now be walked through. You should use the teleporter to get onto these walls to get the supplies behind them. (sector 176)
- See secret #1. (sector 181)
- Take the west teleporter and cross to the other side. Go on the north-west rocks and behind the tree to get an armor and a stimpack. (sector 947)
- See secret #3. This is the sector that the armor is on, however you cannot register it. (sector 374)
- Take the north-west teleporter and head a bit south. Look west and find the water steps. Take them up and go north-west, dropping to a partial invisibility. (sector 379)
- Attempt to leave secret #5 to the east and you will teleport. Jump south-west to a small hole that has a megaarmor. (sector 413)
- Attempt to leave secret #5 to the east and you will teleport. On this ledge, jump to another one to the east and go north-east to the water that has health bonuses and a berserk pack. (sector 418)
- In the north-west area, head to about the middle and go north to pick up a partial invisibility. (sector 462)
- Take the north-east teleporter, then turn around and shoot the demon face to get medikits. (sector 615)
- Take the south-west teleporter and leave the temple you are in. Go to the south end with the pool of blood and use the wall to find a berserk pack and partial invisibility. (sector 865)
Bugs[edit]
As mentioned above, secret #4 cannot be triggered because it is too small for the player to be registered as standing in it, so it is impossible to get 100% secrets in this level.
