MAP30: Eternal Sleep is the thirtieth and final map of Plutonia 1024: The Plutinya Experiment. It was designed by James Caldwell (Obsidian) and EffinghamHuffnagel, and uses the music track "Demons on the Prowl" by John Weekley (PRIMEVAL) from Plutonia: Revisited Community Project. The par time defined in MAPINFO is 3:00.

Walkthrough[edit]

Essentials[edit]

Go up the steps in front of you to a room containing four (depending on skill level) chaingunners, Hell knights or barons of Hell; note the skull "cubes" they are standing under, as when you walk under the cubes you will receive all the weapons, a backpack, a megasphere and the blue skull key. Open the gargoyle switch in the south-east corner and kill a (depending on skill level) revenant, mancubus or arch-vile standing on a pentagram teleporter, then step on this teleporter and walk forward until you are teleported back to the center room. Dispose of the four spectres that teleport to the corners of the room (or revenants on Hurt Me Plenty or higher) along with an arch-vile in the starting room, take the red skull key that lowers in the north-east corner then use it to open the gargoyle switch again. Step on the pentagram teleporter and walk forward until you are teleported back to the center room again, where the yellow skull key has now lowered.

Before taking the yellow key you should deal with a cyberdemon that appears in the starting room. Take the yellow key and open the gargoyle switch for a third time, then step on the pentagram teleporter again - this time you can walk forward until you reach a medikit in front of a red teleporter. The red teleporter will put you on a platform in the center room - press the skull switch in front of you to lower the floor, then step off the plinth to lower the surrounding walls and reveal the Icon of Sin. To damage the Icon you must fire a weapon into its brain, then quickly enter the pentagram teleporter to find that a skull switch has appeared behind the red teleporter; shoot this switch to drop a crusher on the Icon and damage it. Repeat this process, fighting off any spawned monsters as needed, until the Icon is destroyed.

Other points of interest[edit]

Do not step into the pit in front of the Icon - you will telefrag a voodoo doll and be instantly killed.

Secrets[edit]

  1. At the south-east teleporter, head to the north-east corner and use the gargoyle switch to reveal another teleporter at the south-east end. This takes you to a berserk pack, a computer area map and a partial invisibility. (sector 40)
  2. After lowering the outer wall, carefully head south to the south-west corner and use the skull switch on the cross. This will reveal a megaarmor and a supercharge on the coffins near the start, which you should jump to to get this secret. (sector 21)
