MAP31: Cybercage is the first secret map of Plutonia 1024: The Plutinya Experiment. It was designed by Roberto Lopez (Gothic) and uses the music track "The Demon's Dead," originally created by Robert Prince for Doom II. The par time defined in MAPINFO is 2:00.

Essentials[edit]

Step into the courtyard, which has four doors leading away from it, then head west through the silver door to find two chaingunners and a baron of Hell guarding a super shotgun. Go to the staircase on the south side of the room and kill a waiting Hell knight then go up the steps and collect a rocket launcher at the top, before running north to a ledge with a box of rockets. When you go through the doorway on your left an arch-vile will appear in front of you (and a second arch-vile will appear behind you on Ultra-Violence (UV) and Nightmare (NM) skill levels) - kill them quickly then press the lion switch behind the first arch-vile to open a cage in the south-west corner of the map and release the first cyberdemon. Destroy it, then enter the cage and press the red button inside the pentagram wall.

Go back to the courtyard and open the south door to confront a revenant along with two or three knights in a cage; on Hurt Me Plenty or higher, there will be two more revenants waiting on either side of the door. There are two switches at the tops of the steps on either side of this room - you need to quickly flip both switches to reveal an eye switch inside the knights' cage, then shoot the eye switch before it shuts again. Once this is done, return to the west room to find that one of the marble walls has lowered to reveal another lion switch, which will open the south-east cage when pressed and release the second cyberdemon. You can reach this cage through a doorway in the south room, where you will find another pentagram wall with a red button that needs to be pressed.

Open the east door in the courtyard and collect the plasma gun behind it, then use this weapon to kill the chaingunners (and revenants on UV and NM) that appear in the cages ahead. Go up the steps and head left and right to find two switches next to energy cell packs; after flipping both switches, kill a baron (or arch-vile on Hurt Me Plenty or higher) that appears at ground level and press the button that has been revealed in the south wall, then return to the west room and press another lion switch that has been revealed behind the marble walls. This will open the north-east cage and release the third cyberdemon - after killing it, you can get to this cage by jumping off the north ledge in the east room where you will find the third red button.

Open the north door in the courtyard to find an armor in front of a skull switch - equip a rapid-fire weapon before pressing this switch as you will be dropped into a point-blank encounter with a mancubus. Kill it then press another skull switch on the north wall to reveal one or two barons to your left along with a third switch, which will reveal an arch-vile behind you guarding a fourth switch. Press this switch to reveal a red skull switch on the north wall which will raise a lift; kill two revenants that teleport in then use the switch that appears next to the lift to lower it so you can escape. Return to the west room where a final lion switch has been revealed, then press it to open the north-west cage and release the final cyberdemon; after killing it, go up the steps just east of this cage to reach it and press the final red button inside it.

Pressing all four buttons will open a pair of bars blocking the exit teleporter in the north-west corner; this teleporter is fake, however, and when you step on it a spiderdemon will teleport to the courtyard. Open the west door and kill any revenants waiting behind it, then press another lion switch that has been revealed in the north-west corner of the room; finally, head up the steps in this room to get to the south-west cage where the real exit teleporter to MAP32: The Sickening Grove has opened.

Other points of interest[edit]

The four sides of the fake exit teleporter use the "D1 Door Open (Red) Stay" action. This causes the lines to appear red on the automap when using a source port that draws colored lines on locked doors; since exit lines are also colored red by default in such ports, this creates the illusion of an actual exit.
